HS Baseball Roundup: Panthers edge Golden Bears in non-league action

MAHANOY CITY — Panther Valley got the better of Mahanoy Area in a spirited contest Monday afternoon.

Connor Penberth and Brody Breiner each had two hits as the Panthers defeated the Golden Bears 8-6 in a back-and-forth non-league baseball game at Mahanoy Area High School.

An error allowed the first run of the game to score for Panther Valley (4-9) in the top of the first inning. In the third, Danny Wehr added an RBI single and Logan Fisher followed with a two-run double to extend the Panthers’ lead to 4-0.

Mahanoy Area (2-13) rallied for five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, highlighted by a two-run double by Isaiah Rios.

Breiner added an RBI double in the top of the fifth inning to tie the game, and an error gave Panther Valley a 6-5 lead.

Brody Noraka answered with an RBI single for the Golden Bears in the bottom of the fifth to tie the game again.

The Panthers pulled ahead for good in the top of the sixth, scoring twice as Fisher was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and Penberth delivered an RBI single.

Cam Caffery pitched three scoreless innings, allowing three hits for Panther Valley. Brady Jones added three innings of relief, allowing one run on four hits and striking out five.

 

Tri-Valley 14
Williams Valley 4, 6 inn.

TOWER CITY — Parker Hatter tallied a pair of triples and four RBIs as Tri-Valley rolled past Williams Valley in a non-league baseball game Monday.

Trey Porter and Remington Klinger each drove in two runs for the Dawgs, while Braedan Doyle added a double and a triple. Klinger also earned the win on the mound, pitching four innings, allowing one run on two hits.

For Williams Valley, Chase Deibert and Brady Shomper each had an RBI. Deibert doubled, while Fletcher Thompson added a triple for the Vikings.

PINE GROVE — Schuylkill Haven exploded for 27 runs on 22 hits to outslug Pine Grove in a non-league baseball slugfest.

Hunter Correll led the Hurricanes’ offensive barrage, going 5-for-5 with five RBIs, including a home run and a double. Talan Spittler added four hits, six RBIs, and a homer, while Michael Terefencko went 4-for-5 with five RBIs.

Schuylkill Haven (12-3) broke the game open with a seven-run third inning and an 11-run sixth inning. The Hurricanes had seven players record multi-hit games.

Chase Maley doubled and drove in three runs, while Alan Evans and Brayden Fasnacht each collected three hits.

For Pine Grove (6-8), Jake Hatter went 2-for-3 with three RBIs, and Carson Lengle doubled, homered, and drove in a run. The Cardinals scored six runs in the first two innings but couldn’t keep pace.

Logan Trostle earned the win for Schuylkill Haven, allowing six runs over two innings.

Minersville 8
Bloomsburg 6

BLOOMSBURG — Logan Rizzardi went 2-for-3 with three RBIs as Minersville edged Bloomsburg in a non-league baseball game Monday.

Owen Fortna added an RBI double, A.J. Halford chipped in an RBI single, and Garrett Sukeena scored two runs for the Battlin’ Miners.

Logan Hutsko earned the win on the mound, throwing five innings, allowing one earned run, and striking out nine.
