HS Softball: Pine Grove knocks off 6A Northampton

ALLENTOWN — Madison Shiffer and Callee Leffler blasted home runs to lead Pine Grove to an 8-2 victory over Northampton on Saturday evening in a non-league softball game at Patriots Park.
Pine Grove (15-1) won its 10th straight game; the Cardinals are the top-ranked team in District 11 Class 3A. Northampton, a District 11 Class 6A qualifier, fell to 12-6.


Chelcy Clark and Jamie Dinger took care of the work in the circle; they combined on a four-hitter. Clark (10-0) went the first six innings, scattering four hits and allowing one earned run. She struck out five and walked one. Dinger pitched a scoreless seventh with two strikeouts.
The Cardinals grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first inning, but the Konkrete Kids cut the deficit to 2-1 after four innings. In the fifth, Shiffer slugged a two-run home run to give Pine Grove some breathing room at 4-1. Leading 4-2 after six innings, Pine Grove put the game away with a four-run seventh. Leffler’s two-run home run was the big hit.
