ORWIGSBURG — If they handed out MVP awards at Friday’s Blue Mountain Invitational, Pottsville’s Alexa Giuffre and Nativity’s Noah Dolbin would be worthy recipients.
Giuffre and Dolbin each won four events — the same four events — to headline the 17-team track and field invitational Friday night at the Eagles’ Nest.
Giuffre won the girls’ 100- and 300-meter hurdles, long jump and teamed with Riley Davis, Myla Fegley and Lauren Kelly to place first in the 1600 relay.
Dolbin did the same on the boys’ side, sweeping the hurdles, winning the long jump and combining with Nolan Daynorowicz, Liam Messina and Michael Stank to grab gold in the 1600 relay.
Pine Grove’s Viktorya Luckenbach also had a big night, winning the girls’ 100 and 200 and anchoring the Cardinals’ winning 400 relay team that included Bella Kassab, Aubrey Aungst and Molly Drumheller.
Other local girls’ winners included Nativity’s Sara Spolski (400), Tamaqua’s Samantha Plasha (pole vault), Pottsville’s Ashley Gould (shot put) and Blue Mountain’s Makayla Keck (javelin).
On the boys’ side, Stank and Daynorowicz added individual victories, winning the 400 and 800, respectively. Pine Grove’s Nate Frankenfield captured first in the 200, Pottsville’s Cullen Clarke took top honors in the 1600, Tamaqua’s Anthony Marchetti won the 3200 and Pottsville’s Ryan Galen won the discus with a season-best throw of 150 feet, 10 inches.
Local boys’ teams swept the relays, with Pottsville taking the 400 and Nativity winning the 1600 and 3200.
