Weekend Track Wrap: Miners’ Hoffman-Long, Tide’s Giuffre excel at invitationals

HARRISBURG — Minersville’s Maggie Hoffman-Long captured first place in the girls’ long jump and the Miners’ Dante Carr and Alyssa Cook each garnered silver medals at Saturday’s Pan Ram Invitational at Central Dauphin High School.

Minersville and North Schuylkill were among 43 teams that participated in the annual invitational.

Carr was second in the boys’ high jump, clearing 5 feet, 10 inches and was eighth in the long jump.

North Schuylkill’s Luke Miller (10.92) and Paiten LaPoint (10.95) were 3-4 in the boys’ 100-meter dash behind Central Dauphin’s Gabriel Scott (10.7). Miller had the top time in the prelims at 10.92, while LaPoint was third in 10.95.

North Schuylkill (44.46) took fourth and Minersville (45.14) was fifth in the 400 relay behind winning Palmyra (42.53).

In the girls’ competition, Hoffman-Long won the long jump with a best jump of 16 feet, 5.25 inches, nearly four inches better than second-place Jaylynn Dorsey of Susquehanna Township (16-1.5). Hoffman-Long was also second in the triple jump at 34-6.25 and sixth in the 100 at 13.08.

Cook was second in the pole vault, clearing 9 feet, while the Miners’ Avery Miller was fifth in the javelin at 107-5.

Giuffre, Gould, Galavage, Clarke grab gold

At Kutztown’s Neyhart Invitational

KUTZTOWN — Alexa Giuffre, Ashley Gould, Evan Galavage and Cullen Clarke each won individual events as Pottsville competed in the seven-team Neyhart Invitational on Saturday at Kutztown Area High School.

Giuffre swept the hurdle events and was second in the long jump. Gould took first in the shot put and was fourth in the discus. Lauren Kelly (300 hurdles) and Rhyan Brennan (triple jump) scored second-place finishes.

On the boys’ side, Galavage won the 200 meters and was second in the 100. Clarke took top honors in the 1600 and was second in the 800. Pottsville also won the 1600-meter relay and was second in the 400 relay.

Donovann Durham was second in the 110 hurdles. In the field, Ryan Galen was third in both the discus and shot put.
