HS Softball: Blue Devils fall to Jim Thorpe

SHENANDOAH — Madison Schwartz pitched a four-inning no-hitter to lead Jim Thorpe past Shenandoah Valley 22-0 on Tuesday in a non-league softball season opener for both teams at Bicentennial Park.
Schwartz struck out eight, walked two and got a double play from her defense.
Mara Levins held the big bat for the Olympians, going 2-for-2 with four runs scored and six RBIs. Levins smacked a three-run triple in the second inning and a three-run double in the fourth.
Julianna Frantz went 3-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI out of the No. 9 spot for Jim Thorpe. Kaylyn Costello added two hits, while Schwartz and Isabella Lloyd knocked in two runs apiece.

Games postponed
Mahanoy Area tried to get its fields ready for play Tuesday, but Mother Nature forced the Golden Bears to postpone their home games.
The Nativity at Mahanoy Area softball game has been rescheduled for Wednesday, March 19, at 4 p.m.
The Southern Columbia at Mahanoy Area baseball game has been postponed with a makeup date to be announced.
