POTTSVILLE — Schuylkill Haven’s first PIAA girls’ basketball state playoff win in 40 years was a pretty easy one.
Alea Porter scored 16 points and Kylie Siket added 14 as the Schuylkill League champions cruised past the Bodine Ambassadors 51-15 on Friday night at Martz Hall.
The victory, Haven’s first state playoff win since the 1985 squad captured the PIAA Class A title, advances the Hurricanes (23-6) to Tuesday’s second round where they will play District 3 runner-up Pequea Valley, a 61-39 winner over Masterman.
Schuylkill Haven opened the game on a 10-0 run and compiled 25 first-quarter points. Porter, a senior guard, tallied 14 of her points in the outburst, including a 3-point play.
Siket and Anna Schaeffer combined for eight points, and Mckenna Runkle added a bucket to give the Hurricanes a 25-2 lead after the first frame.
Hanifah El-Martini scored the lone bucket for the Ambassadors at the four-minute mark.
