PINE GROVE — Chase Sarge’s clutch free throws were exactly what Pine Grove needed.
Sarge hit two free throws that pushed Pine Grove ahead of Pottsville with .3 remaining in regulation as the Cardinals edged the Crimson Tide 59-58 on Tuesday at Pine Grove Area High School.
Sarge was scoreless heading to the fourth quarter but came alive offensively right in time for Pine Grove (7-13, 4-8 D-I).
Quinn Brommer paced the Cardinals by matching a game-high 22 points, including four in the fourth quarter. Hayden Felty netted 14 points for the Cardinals.
For Pottsville (14-6, 9-3 in D-I), the loss ends a seven-game winning streak. Christian Alvarez tied a game-high 22 points, Ryder Bowers had 15 and Colin McGinley added 10.
Despite the loss, the Tide clinched a Schuylkill League playoff berth after Minersville’s win over Panther Valley. The only way Blue Mountain could’ve made the league playoffs is if there was a three-way tie among Pottsville, Minersville and Blue Mountain.
