HS Boys’ Basketball Roundup: Mahanoy Area’s unbeaten streak continues

MAHANOY CITY — Approaching the home stretch of the regular season, Mahanoy Area’s streak continues.

Ryan Zilker netted a game-high 16 points as Mahanoy Area rolled past North Schuylkill 58-32 in a Schuylkill League Division I boys’ basketball game Tuesday at the Mickey Holland Gymnasium.

The victory was Mahanoy Area’s 17th straight and clinches a Schuylkill League Division I playoff berth for the Golden Bears (17-0, 10-0 D-I).

Zilker collected 10 of his 16 points in the second half, while Jace Yedsena added 16 for the Golden Bears. Zack Marcinowski finished with a team-high six points for the Spartans, who led 14-13 at the end of the first quarter.

Mahanoy Area rallied to outscore North Schuylkill 19-11 in the second quarter before going up big after halftime.

WEATHERLY — Noah Dolbin topped a trio of double-digit scorers with a game-high 21 points as Nativity cruised by Weatherly in a Division II matchup.

The Hilltoppers jumped ahead 19-14 after the first quarter and exploded for 21 more in the second to take a 40-20 lead at halftime. Layne Pasker collected 18 points for Nativity, while Trey Keating added 16.

For the Wreckers, Ian McKeegan netted a team-high 20 points, Niko Saldukas totaled 12 and Corbin Wagner chipped in 10.

Blue Mountain 71, Tamaqua 64

TAMAQUA — Aidan Grace led all scorers with a monstrous 39 points as Blue Mountain defeated Tamaqua in a Division I shootout.

Grace hit eight 3-pointers and went 7-for-8 from the free-throw line for the Eagles. The Blue Raiders led 13-6 at the end of the first quarter but Blue Mountain quickly flipped the script and took the lead 29-26 at the half.

Noah Mateyak and Cooper Ansbach tied a team-high 23 points for Tamaqua.

SCHUYLKILL HAVEN — Alan Evans tied a game-high 23 points as Schuylkill Haven beat Marian in a Division II contest.

Evans shot 12-for-13 from the free-throw line for the Hurricanes, who trailed the Colts 38-36 at halftime. Justin Watcher scored 20 points for Schuylkill Haven and Brady Kelly chipped in 12.

For Marian, Rocco Griguoli tied a game-high 23 points, while Jacob De La Cruz and Dominic Catrone each added 11.

For the Cardinals, Chase Sarge scored a team-high 15 points and Hayden Felty totaled 13.
