HS Basketball Roundup: Mahanoy Area, Minersville boys continue to roll

ORWIGSBURG — Shazier Bethea’s big performance was key as Minersville collected its eighth consecutive win Friday night.
Bethea, a junior, exploded for a game-high 32 points as the Battlin’ Miners rolled past Blue Mountain 67-34 in a Schuylkill League Division I boys’ basketball game at Blue Mountain High School.
The junior set the tone early as he collected 10 points in the first quarter and totaled 20 in the first half. Minersville (12-2, 8-1 in D-I) led 41-19 at halftime.
Dante Carr added 15 points for the Battlin’ Miners, who sit in second place in Division I behind unbeaten Mahanoy Area (16-0, 9-0 in D-I).
For the Eagles, Tyeirre Meade netted a team-high nine points and Chase Guers added eight.

LANSFORD — Jace Yedsena led all scorers with 37 points and Tanner Zawada added 19 as Mahanoy Area cruised past Panther Valley in a Division I matchup.
Yedsena and Zawada combined to hit 13 of the Golden Bears 17 total 3-pointers in the game. Mahanoy Area (16-0, 9-0 in D-I) remains undefeated so far throughout this season.
Danny Wehr netted a team-high nine points for the Panthers, while Ben Baneravage added eight.

Letrel Montone chipped in 13 points and Ryder Bowers added 12 for the Crimson Tide, who led the Blue Raiders 28-21 at the half.
Noah Mateyak scored a game-high 25 points and shot 7-for-7 from the free throw line for Tamaqua. Cooper Ansbach added 12 points and Luke Kane totaled 10.

WEATHERLY — Niko Saldukas paced Weatherly with a game-high 23 points as Weatherly defeated Schuylkill Haven in a Division II game.
Ian McKeegan collected 15 points for the Wreckers, who exploded for 22 points in the fourth quarter to come from behind to beat the Hurricanes. Corbin Wagner added 11 points.
Schuylkill Haven led 37-36 after the third quarter, but couldn’t hang on. Alan Evans totaled a team-high 19 points, while Max Heim chipped in 16.
