Schuylkill Haven’s Niko Carestia, North Schuylkill’s Luke Miller and Pottsville’s Brayden Evans earned Player of the Year honors as the Schuylkill County Football Coaches Association released its all-star teams Monday.

The teams were split into Big School and Small School all-star teams and were voted on by the coaches in those respective groups. Unlike previous years, the SCFCA did not select a Dream Team.

Carestia, a junior running back/linebacker, was named both the Small School Offensive Player of the Year and the Small School Defensive Player of the Year.

Offensively, Carestia rushed 239 times for 2,702 yards and 38 touchdowns. He scored 40 total touchdowns and scored on 23 two-point conversions, giving him 286 points on the season. Defensively, Carestia led the Hurricanes in tackles with 127, had 17 tackles for loss, four sacks and a pick-6 interception.

Two of his Schuylkill Haven teammates, Wyatt Keefer and Chase Williams, were named the Small School Offensive Lineman of the Year and Small School Defensive Lineman of the Year, respectively.

Williams Valley head coach Stephen Sedesse, who guided the Vikings to a 12-2 mark and a second consecutive District 11 Class AA title, was named the Small School Coach of the Year.

Miller, also a junior, had a breakout season for the District 11 Class 3A runner-up Spartans, earning Big School Offensive Player of the Year honors.

The running back/defensive back had led the Spartans in both rushing and receiving, running for 1,283 yards and 20 touchdowns and hauling in 31 passes for 441 yards and four touchdowns despite missing North Schuylkill’s two District 11 playoff games. Defensively, Miller had 41 tackles, four interceptions and a pick-6.

Miller’s North Schuylkill teammate, Aiden Zilker, was named the Big School Offensive Lineman of the Year.

Pottsville swept the Big School defensive honors. Evans, a senior linebacker who led the Crimson Tide in tackles with 114 and had 15 tackles for loss and three sacks, was named the Big School Defensive Player of the Year. Senior defensive tackle Tahlil Flucker-White was selected as the Big School Defensive Lineman of the Year.

Pottsville head coach Mike Brennan, who guided the Crimson Tide to a 6-6 mark and their first District 11 playoff victory since 2019, was named the Big School Coach of the Year.
