Weekend Roundup: Pine Grove teams get Homecoming sweep

Girls’ Volleyball

Pine Grove 3, Nativity 0 — Domani Collazo compiled five aces, nine kills and four digs as the Cardinals capped a big week with a 25-14, 27-25, 25-8 non-league sweep of the Green Wave as part of Pine Grove’s Homecoming festivities.

Lily Flynn added nine kills and four digs for Pine Grove, while Mary Fertig dished out 29 assists and had seven digs. It was the fifth win in the past eight days for the Cardinals (7-4).

Julianna Carlson notched nine kills and had 17 digs for Nativity (7-3), which had its five-match win streak snapped. Sara Spolski added four kills and six assists, whle Amara Miller had four assists and six digs.

Pine Grove won JV 2-0.

Weatherly 3, MMI Prep 1 — Kelly Reiner served 12 aces as the Wreckers earned a 25-23, 26-28, 25-19, 25-14 non-league road victory against the Preppers in Freeland.

Kayla Kunkle added six kills for Weatherly (2-7), while Rachel Rosenlund had 13 assists.

Halifax 3, Minersville 0 — At Minersville, Ayla Castle had 14 assists and three digs as the Miners dropped a non-league match against the Wildcats 25-16, 25-18, 25-14.

Hailey Croley had eight kills and 11 digs for Minersville (4-9), while Hailey Bowers had three aces, three kills and five digs. Lily Popp paced Halifax with nine assists, while Lily Crum had five aces, three kills and four blocks and Shae Romberger collected five digs and five kills.

Halifax won JV 2-0.

Marian 3, Palmerton 1 — Isabella Horvat and Alena Lombardo each had eight kills and Horvat tallied four aces and 14 digs as the Fillies outlasted the Blue Bombers 25-13, 21-25, 25-12, 25-21 in a non-league match as part of Marian’s Homecoming celebration.

Kali Grochowski added five kills, six aces and eight digs for the Fillies (8-3), while Maddy Davis contributed three kills and two aces.

Marian 3, Executive Education 0 — The Fillies (9-3) earned a sweep of their Homecoming doubleheader with a 25-14, 25-14, 25-13 win over Executive Education (5-3).

Horvat had another strong match with nine kills, two aces and six digs. Caydense Smith contributed three aces and 15 digs, while Eris Hayes had 23 assists, 12 digs and three aces.

Boys’ Soccer

Tri-Valley 3, Notre Dame-East Stroudsburg 2 — At East Stroudsburg, Lukas Ruch’s goal in the 95th minute was the game-winner as the Bulldogs (5-4-1) outlasted the Crusaders (1-8) in double overtime.

Nathan Hillard tallied a pair of second-half goals for Tri-Valley, who overcame a 2-0 halftime deficit. Ruch then scored midway through the second OT to give the Dawgs the win. Brayden Leese and Gavin Ballay shared net duties for Tri-Valley.

North Schuylkill 6, Shamokin 0 — Brady Welker scored a natural hat trick and Aaron Brayford and Austin Corrigan each added a goal and an assist as the Spartans blanked the Indians in a non-league match Saturday.

Welker scored in the 33rd minute of the first half, then added goals in the 56th and 58th minute of the second half. Gage Reidler also scored for North Schuylkill (6-4), while Kaden Onuschak notched the shutout by making three saves in net. Zack Marcinowski, Max Helwig, Noah James and Jayz Cohetero tallied assists.

Pine Grove 2, Palmerton 1 — The Cardinals improved to 9-2-1 with a non-league win over the Blue Bombers (6-5-1) at Cardinal Stadium. No other details were available.

Girls’ Soccer

Schuylkill Haven 6, Brandywine Heights 0 — At Topton, Taylor Haag compiled three goals and two assists as the Hurricanes blitzed the Bullets in a non-league match.

Ava Terefencko, Audrey Hutchinson and Faith Goehring also scored for Schuylkill Haven (9-1-1), while Bella Murphy and Kylie Siket added assists. Nikki Domermuth made seven saves to notch the shutout in net for Haven.

Pine Grove 4, Tri-Valley 2 — Aubrey Aungst and Gianna Pompei tallied second-half goals as the Cardinals broke away from a 2-2 tie to outlast the Dawgs as part of Homecoming at Cardinal Stadium.

Homecoming Queen Viktorya Luckenbach and Meadow Umbenhauer scored first-half goals for Pine Grove (7-3). Tri-Valley falls to 7-2.

Schuylkill Valley 4, Blue Mountain 1 — At the Eagles’ Nest, Alex Warke’s goal tied the contest at 1-1 at halftime, but the Panthers scored three second-half goals to capture the non-league victory.

Katie Katerman and Alanza Smith combined to make seven saves in net for the Eagles (6-4).

 

Minersville 7, Lourdes 1 — Hope Motuk tallied three goals and an assist as the Miners cruised past the Red Raiders.

Jenna Cullen added two goals and two assists for Minersville, which outshot Lourdes 27-7. Grace Sterner and Shayla Miklesavage tallied the other two goals for the Miners, while Sterner and Payton Frantz each had two assists.

Cross Country

Schaeffer, Espinal win at Cardinal Clash — Schuylkill Haven’s Anna Schaeffer won the girls’ title for the second straight year and Shenandoah Valley’s Robert Espinal took the boys’ crown in 17:06 at Saturday’s Cardinal Clash cross country invitational at Pine Grove.

North Schuylkill’s Genevive Dando (9:08) won her second straight junior high girls’ championship, while Hunter Russell (7:48) took first in the boys’ junior high race.
