Nativity washes away Panther Valley

20240731_113643

LANSFORD — For middle-of-the pack football teams, it’s a case of pick your poison when playing Nativity.

There is just one problem, however, for those teams. It is way too easy for them to overdose.

Such was the case for Panther Valley in Friday’s Schuylkill/Colonial Blue Division game when Nativity swept into Lansford scored early and often in a methodical 60-0 victory.

Playing without injured quarterback Brody Breiner, the Panthers (1-4, 1-3 Blue) had little chance of treading water and were washed away by the Green Wave (4-1, 3-1 Blue).

Nativity opened the game with a 56-yard touchdown pass from Ben Kreitzer to Mike Stank. It only got worse for the Panthers as Stank scored on a 49-yard run later in the quarter for a 13-0 lead.

Kreitzer had a pair touchdown passes in the second quarter, hitting Sam Walborn with an 11-yarder and Sam Spolski with a 20-yarder to make it 34-0 at halftime.

Between those two touchdown passes Spolski ran 44 yards for the first of his two rushing touchdowns. Spolski and Walborn also ran for third-quarter touchdowns, and Nick Wagner capped the quarter with a 59-yard run.

Cooper Felty made the score 60-0 with a run of 49 yards. Spolski, Stank and Walborn all rushed for more than 50 yards, and Kreitzer passed for 188 yards on seven completions.

“We have a lot of guys who get attention, but the best part is that no one is selfish,” Nativity coach Pat Mason said. “Collectively, they weren’t happy with the way we started, but then we stepped up.”

Kreitzer has now completed 28-of-61 passes for 727 yards and nine touchdowns this season. On the ground, the Green Wave continues to get production from Walborn with 44 carries for 420 yards and Spolski with 53 carries for 385 yards.

Nativity wore the Panthers down on several first-half scoring drives, going 80 yards in five plays, 72 yards in 11 plays and 66 yards in nine plays. They also had the quick-strike touchdown on the opening play and a three-play, 54-yard drive.

Nativity dominated the time of possession with a 19-1 advantage in first downs. All in all, it made for a forgettable Homecoming for the Panthers.
