HS Baseball Roundup: Pottsville powers past Pine Grove

PINE GROVE — Dominic Rynard tossed 5.2 innings, allowing four runs on two hits while striking out 10 as Pottsville defeated Pine Grove 11-6 in a Schuylkill League Division I baseball game Thursday under the lights at Walter Stump Stadium.

The other half of Pottsville’s battery, catcher Alan Kushwarra, powered the Crimson Tide offensively with three hits in five plate appearances. Kushwarra added three RBIs, while Max Clews, Harrison Ciavarella, Brody Eroh and Landon Trout each chipped in an RBI.

Pottsville (5-10, 2-5 D-I) jumped ahead 2-1 after the first inning and later tacked on four runs in the top of the fourth. Rynard hit a leadoff single to start the rally.

The Cardinals (6-8, 2-6) added five runs across the sixth and seventh innings to attempt a comeback, but the Crimson Tide matched Pine Grove’s late offense and rolled to the victory.

Pottsville tallied 14 hits, including extra-base hits by Rynard, Trout and Luke Schane, but stranded 12 men on base.

For the Cardinals, Wyatt Snyder picked up three RBIs with two hits — one a double — and scored a run. Ian Brown added two RBIs, while Quinn Brommer struck out seven over four innings pitched.

Tri-Valley 4, Blue Mountain 1

ORWIGSBURG — Gavin Klock pitched a complete-game three-hitter and struck out four as Tri-Valley knocked off Blue Mountain in a Division I game.

Gavin Scheib and Jason Stewart each had an RBI for the Dawgs. Stewart and Trey Porter both doubled, while Parker Hatter collected two hits for Tri-Valley.

Aiden Finn hit an RBI single for the Eagles.

North Schuylkill 9, Panther Valley 1

FOUNTAIN SPRINGS — Chase Slotcavage struck out 10 and threw a complete-game three-hitter as North Schuylkill rolled past Panther Valley in a Division I game.

Landen Smith went 3-for-3 with three RBIs, Aaron Brayford chipped in two singles and scored a run, and Hunter Rogers added a solo home run for the Spartans (5-8, 3-6).

Danny Wehr drove in the lone run for the Panthers (3-8, 1-7).

Schuylkill Haven 6, Minersville 4

SCHUYLKILL HAVEN — Alan Evans went 3-for-5 with two RBIs and pitched 4.2 innings of scoreless relief as Schuylkill Haven edged Minersville in a Division II ballgame.

The Battlin’ Miners led 4-0 going into the bottom of the third before the Hurricanes mounted their comeback. Nolan Plesnarski chipped in a two-run double, and Cam Rogers pitched all six innings for Minersville.

Gavin Wade added two hits and two RBIs for the Hurricanes, who took a 5-4 lead in the bottom of the fourth after a three-run rally. Brayden Fasnacht and Johnny Fessler each tallied an RBI for Haven.

Marian 12, Shenandoah Valley 3

HOMETOWN — Rocco Griguoli and Chase Grier each tallied two hits and three RBIs as Marian rolled past Shenandoah Valley in a Division II game.

Cole Defrancisco started on the hill for the Colts (8-7, 7-3) and pitched five innings, allowing two earned runs on five hits and striking out six before being relieved by Grier, who added four more strikeouts.

Brandon Boris, Tristian Karosas, and Brayden Lutz each collected an RBI for the Blue Devils (10-5, 6-3).

Nativity 10, Mahanoy Area 1

POTTSVILLE — Ryan Grabowski threw a complete-game one-hitter as Nativity cruised past Mahanoy Area in a Division II game.

Grabowski, a junior, struck out seven and allowed just one unearned run. Stephen Karinch and Nick Clarke each collected two RBIs to power the Hilltoppers.

Brody Noraka had the lone hit for the Golden Bears.

TAMAQUA — Luke Kane collected two singles and a double in three plate appearances as Tamaqua defeated Conrad Weiser in a non-league game.

Matt Vecolitis earned the win for the Blue Raiders (14-1), pitching five innings of relief and allowing six runs (one earned) on five hits. Maximus Najarro and Cooper Ansbach each had two RBIs.
