MAHANOY CITY — The Marian girls and Nativity boys continued their quests for Schuylkill League Division II track and field titles Wednesday with a pair of sweeps at Mahanoy Area’s Alumni Stadium.

The Fillies downed Panther Valley 123-18 and Nativity 84-56 to improve to 4-0 on the season. The Green Wave boys routed Panther Valley 113-28 and defeated Marian 100-38 to reach 5-0 on the season.

Both Division II titles will be decided on the final day of the regular season Tuesday, April 29, when Marian competes at Schuylkill Haven and Nativity runs at Mahanoy Area.

On the girls’ side, Marian and Schuylkill Haven (5-0 D-II) are both unbeaten in league play. The winner of their dual meet will be the division champion. Marian also faces Weatherly on April 29 at Rotary Field.

On the boys’ side, Nativity leads Mahanoy Area (4-1) and Schuylkill Haven (4-1) by one game in the standings. The Green Wave beat Schuylkill Haven 93-48 in their matchup April 1 and can win the title outright with a win over the Golden Bears on April 29. A Mahanoy Area win, coupled with a Schuylkill Haven win over Marian, would force a three-way tie.

Wednesday, Alizabeth Pikitus (200), Ava Fritz (400), Kali Grochowski (high jump), Addy Fritz (triple jump) and Olivia Thomas (shot put) won individual events as the Fillies used their depth and a sweep of the relays to capture the girls’ tri-meet.

Catherine Marinchak paced Nativity with victories in the 800, 1600 and 3200, while Lily Baran swept the hurdles and Emmalee Pinkey took first in the discus and javelin. The Green Wave defeated Panther Valley 91-37 in the other part of the tri-meet.

Michael Stank was the leader for the Nativity boys in their sweep, taking first in the 100, 200 and 400.

Nash Stehr (1600, 3200), Noah Dolbin (110 hurdles, 300 hurdles) and Liam Messina (high jump, triple jump) each won two events, while Nolan Daynorowicz (800) and Aiden Becker (javelin) notched victories. The Green Wave (5-0, 5-0 D-II) won 14 of 17 events.

Gino Williams placed first in the discus for Panther Valley (1-3, 1-3), which beat Marian 78-59. Aidan Milkovits won the shot put for Marian (1-3, 1-3).
