HS Softball: Pine Grove shuts out Pottsville in Division I

PINE GROVE — Chelcy Clark and Jamie Dinger combined on a three-hit shutout to lead Pine Grove to a 7-0 victory over Pottsville in a Schuylkill League Division I softball game Thursday evening at Susan Y. Stump Field.

Clark went the first six innings, giving up three hits, striking out nine and walking one. Dinger pitched a scoreless seventh with two strikeouts and one walk.

Peyton Eckert pitched six innings for Pottsville, allowing six hits and two earned runs. She struck out six and walked three.

Madison Shiffer sparked the Cardinals’ offense, going 2-for-3 with two runs scored and one RBI. Dinger also went 2-for-3. Callee Leffler walked twice, stole two bases and scored two runs.

North Schuylkill 12, Panther Valley 2

FOUNTAIN SPRINGS — Olivia Jones had a huge day in the circle and at the plate to lead North Schuylkill to a Division I victory over Panther Valley at Dot Seidel Field.

Jones pitched a one-hitter, allowing two unearned runs. She struck out nine and walked none. At the plate, Jones went 3-for-4 with a double, a triple, four RBIs and a run scored.

Peyton Miscannon went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored for the Spartans. Other top hitters for North Schuylkill included Lyza Holmes, 2-for-3 with a double, one RBI and one run; and Lindsay Brouse, 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Kyla McQuillen singled and drove in a run for the Panthers.

MAHANOY CITY — Emmerson Frie went 3-for-5 with a triple, five RBIs and two runs scored as Blue Mountain downed Mahanoy Area in a Division I game.

Tied 1-1 heading to the latter innings, the Eagles scored six times in the sixth inning and five more in the seventh to pull away.

Addyson Fishburn went 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, two runs and an RBI for Blue Mountain. Courtney Cavadini tripled and knocked in a run.

Winning pitcher Emily Leonard scattered three hits, allowing one unearned run. She struck out 10 and walked none.

MOUNT CARMEL — Nico Conahan went 4-for-4 with a double, three RBIs and two runs scored to power Tamaqua to a Division I victory over Lourdes.

Peyton Faust tossed a three-inning no-hitter and struck out six for the Blue Raiders.

Megan Linkhorst added a 2-for-2 day with a double, three runs and two RBIs for Tamaqua.

TOWER CITY — Kamri Koppenhaver hurled a three-inning perfect game with eight strikeouts as Williams Valley cruised past Weatherly in a Division II game.

Koppenhaver helped herself at the plate by singling, scoring twice and driving in two runs.

Cierra Brill held the big bat for the Vikings, going 2-for-2 with two doubles, four RBIs and three runs scored.

Other top hitters for Williams Valley included Kayla Hand, 2-for-2 with two runs and one RBI; Sage Smeltz, 2-for-2 with a double, three RBIs and a run scored; and Delaney Bixler, 2-for-2 with a double, three runs and one RBI.
