HS Softball: Williams Valley thumps Marian to stay unbeaten in Division II

HOMETOWN — Olivia Hand tossed a two-hit shutout and struck out five as Williams Valley cruised past Marian 16-0 in four innings Thursday in a Schuylkill League Division II softball game on the Marian campus.

Sage Smeltz and Kayla Hand sparked the Vikings’ 16-hit attack. Smeltz went 3-for-4 with her league-leading fifth home run of the season, three RBIs and two runs scored. Kayla Hand went 3-for-4 with a double, a triple, four RBIs and three runs scored.
Leading 2-0, Williams Valley scored eight runs in the third inning to take control.
Other top hitters for the Vikings included Ella Kobularik, 2-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored; Quin Smeltz, 2-for-3 with a double, one run and one RBI; Audrina Fry, 2-for-3 with a double, two runs and one RBI; Olivia Hand, 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI; and Kamri Koppenhaver 1-for-2 with a double, two RBIs and one run.

SCHUYLKILL HAVEN — Joie Schoffstall went 3-for-3 with a triple, five RBIs and two runs scored to lift Schuylkill Haven over Nativity in a Division II game.
Schoffstall also tossed two innings in relief of winning pitcher Allie Scherer. They combined on a two-hitter in the three-inning game.
Nickie Domermuth singled and drove in a pair of runs for the Hurricanes, who took advantage of 10 walks.
Anna Jansson tripled and drove in a run for Nativity.

HEGINS — Savanah Stiely went 3-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI as Tri-Valley defeated Minersville in a Division II game for the Bulldogs’ seventh straight win.
Cassi Snyder went 2-for-4 with a stolen base, three runs scored and an RBI for the Dawgs, who scored in every inning. Alina Leonard added a 2-for-4 day with two RBIs and a run scored for Tri-Valley.
Grace Sterner led Minersville, going 2-for-3 with a run scored, while Eila O’Brien went 2-for-2 with a double.
Kora Rodichok scattered six hits, allowed one run and struck out seven to pick up the win in the circle.

LANSFORD — Emmerson Frie slugged a grand slam to power Blue Mountain past Panther Valley in a Division I game. Frie tied Williams Valley’s Sage Smeltz for the league lead with her fifth home run of the season.

Chloe Brown took care of the pitching, hurling a two-hit shutout and striking out 10 for the Eagles. Brown helped herself by going 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
Other top hitters for Blue Mountain included Addyson Fishburn, 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and three runs scored; Avery Hudock, 2-for-4 with two doubles and three runs; Callie Peel, 2-for-3 with an RBI; and Courtney Cavadini, a single and two RBIs.

Jordanna Frie added a 2-for-2 day that included a home run and two RBIs. Mallorie Croker doubled and drove in two runs, while Monica Selgrade singled, stole two bases, scored twice and had two RBIs for the Spartans.

SHENANDOAH — Zoey Zulkowski went 2-for-2 with a triple, three runs scored and two RBIs as Shenandoah Valley outlasted Weatherly in a Division II game at Bicentennial Park.
The Blue Devils led 12-6 after five innings, but the Wreckers scored one run in the sixth and three in the seventh before Shenandoah Valley got the final out.
