HS Softball: Minersville slugs way past Marian in Division II clash

HOMETOWN — Payton Frantz had a career day at the plate Tuesday to power Minersville to a 16-2 victory over Marian in a Schuylkill League Division II softball game on the Fillies’ campus.
Frantz went 3-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and six RBIs for the Miners, who have won three of their last four. Minersville broke the game open with a nine-run third inning.
Eila O’Brien took care of the pitching for the Miners, tossing a four-hitter, striking out four and walking one.

Other top hitters for the Miners included Grace Sterner, 2-for-3, three runs and one RBI; Rilynn Brennan, 2-for-5 with two runs and one RBI; Bella Rizzardi, 2-for-3 with a double, two runs and two RBIs; Sara McGrath, 2-for-4 with a triple, three RBIs and one run scored; O’Brien, 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI; and Isabella Cruz, 2-for-2 with a double, two runs and one RBI.
Gracie Sendatch went 2-for-2 with a double and an RBI for the Fillies.

TAMAQUA — Naomi Knitter dominated in the circle and at the plate to lead Tamaqua to a Division I win over Panther Valley.
Knitter pitched a one-hit shutout in the five-inning game, striking out nine and walking one. At the plate, she went 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs.

Leah Crowley went 2-for-3 with a double, two runs and two RBIs, while Megan Linkhorst went 2-for-2 with a double, one run and one RBI for the Blue Raiders, who have won five in a row.

MAHANOY CITY — Jes Siminitus went 3-for-4 with a double, three RBIs and two runs scored to power Pottsville past Mahanoy Area in a Division I game.

Reese Ketner singled and drove in two runs while Jo Barnhart slugged a solo home run for the Crimson Tide, who settled the issue with an eight-run fifth inning and climbed back to the .500 mark.
Peyton Eckert went the distance in the circle for Pottsville, allowing two hits and one earned run while striking out seven and walking two.
Hailey Mroczka tripled and scored a run for the Golden Bears.

TOWER CITY — Ella Kobularik went 3-for-4 with two doubles, four RBIs and one run scored as Williams Valley topped Nativity in a Division II game at Lee Reiser Field.
Kamri Koppenhaver hurled a four-inning one-hitter, striking out 10 and walking three. Koppenhaver helped herself at the plate with a home run, four RBIs and two runs scored.
Miley Mahoney singled and scored three runs, while Cierra Brill homered, scored three runs and knocked in two.
The Vikings broke the game open with a 12-run second inning. In that frame, Koppenhaver blasted a three-run home run; two batters later, Brill launched a two-run shot.
In the fourth, Kobularik’s three-run double ended the game by the 15-run rule.

SHENANDOAH — Emmie Scherer had a day to remember as Schuylkill Haven defeated Shenandoah Valley in a Division II game at Bicentennial Park.
Scherer went 4-for-4 with a double, a home run, two runs scored and eight RBIs as the Hurricanes won their third straight.

Other top hitters for Schuylkill Haven included Teagan Wehr, 2-for-2 with five runs scored and one RBI; Skylar Bayliff, 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored; and Nickie Domermuth, a single, three runs and one RBI.
Allie Scherer went the first four innings in the circle to get the win. She allowed one hit and one unearned run while striking out 10 and walking none. Joie Schoffstall pitched a scoreless fifth inning and struck out two to complete the three-hitter.
Morgan Labosky tripled and knocked in a run for Shenandoah Valley.

WEATHERLY — Freshman Alina Leonard earned her first varsity win by pitching a three-inning perfect game to lead Tri-Valley to a victory over Weatherly in a Division II game.
All nine outs Leonard recorded came on strikeouts. At the plate, Leonard went 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
Liv Witmer went 2-for-2 with a triple, a home run, five RBIs and two runs for the Bulldogs. In two games this week, she’s 6-for-6 with two triples, a home run, six RBIs and four runs scored.
Twelve different Dawgs recorded at least one hit. Others of note: Myah Schwalm, 2-for-3 with a double, a home run, two RBIs and two runs scored; Savanah Stiely, 2-for-2 with a run scored; and Kenzie Tobin, 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and one run scored.
