HS Track: Miners, Raiders split dual; Eagles break relay record at Upper Dublin invite

MINERSVILLE — It was a cold and rainy day for a track meet, but that didn’t stop Tamaqua, Minersville and Lincoln Leadership from squeezing in a tri-meet Monday afternoon.
On the girls’ side, Kimmy Rudy and Samantha Plasha each won twice and ran on a winning relay as Tamaqua edged Minersville 80.75-68.25 in a Schuylkill League Division I meet. Both teams easily cruised past Lincoln Leadership in non-league action, with the Miners winning 137-5 and the Raiders winning 136-6.
Rudy won the 400 meters and 1,600-meter run for Tamaqua (3-0, 2-0 D-I), while Plasha took first in the high jump and pole vault.
Maggie Hoffman-Long won four times for Minersville (2-1, 1-1), placing first in the 100, 200, long jump and triple jump. Avery Miller captured three field events, winning the shot put, discus and javelin.
On the boys’ side, Kolin Long and Bradley Kostishak each won three events as the Miners swept Tamaqua and Lincoln Leadership.
Minersville downed Tamaqua 98-51 in a Schuylkill League Division I contest. The Miners decked Lincoln Leadership 136-4, while Tamaqua beat Lincoln Leadership 143-6 in the non-league portion of the meet.
Long took first place in the 800, 1600 and 3200 runs, while Kostishak swept the hurdles and took first in the triple jump. The Miners (3-0, 2-0 D-I) won 14 of 18 events.
Paiten LaPoint and Dante Carr each won twice, with LaPoint winning the 100 and 400 and Carr placing first in the high jump and long jump.
William Behun (discus) and Frank Hill (pole vault) secured individual wins for Tamaqua (1-2, 0-2).

Eagles excel at Upper Dublin’s Cardinal Classic
FORT WASHINGTON — Schuylkill League runners swept the top three places in the boys’ 100 and Blue Mountain broke a District 11 record in the 400 relay at Friday’s Cardinal Classic hosted by Upper Dublin High School.
Blue Mountain and North Schuylkill competed in the invitational, which featured athletes from 40 schools.
The Eagles’ Chase Guers had a big day, taking first in the 100 and 200. His winning time of 10.86 seconds in the 100 edged North Schuylkill’s Luke Miller (10.91) and teammate Cole Swick (11.05), who were second and third, respectively. In the 200, Guers won in 21.87, with Miller taking fourth in 22.26.
Guers then teamed with Cole Swick, Kole Luckenbill and Gaige Guers to win the 400 relay in 41.27, which is a Blue Mountain school, Schuylkill League and District 11 record. The previous school and league record was 42.13 set by Blue Mountain last year.
William Shaner also garnered gold for Blue Mountain, winning the javelin with a top throw of 164-0. Blue Mountain’s Rafael Liranzo was third in the 300 hurdles (40.49) and seventh in the 110 hurdles (15.78), while Blue Mountain’s Francesco Carr was fourth in the 800 (2:00.83) and the Eagles’ 1600 relay was sixth in 3:27.49.
For North Schuylkill, Aiden Zilker took third in the shot put (44-2), while Sander Stokes was sixth in the discus (118-1) and 10th in the shot put (41-3).
On the girls’ side, Makayla Keck was the champion in the javelin with a top heave of 125-5, then took 10th in the shot put (31-1). Teammate Alexandria Warke was sixth (89-1) in the javelin.
