HS Softball: Schuylkill Haven holds off Minersville

MINERSVILLE — Joie Schoffstall went 3-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored to lead Schuylkill Haven over Minersville 7-5 in a Schuylkill League Division II softball game Tuesday at Ken Schneck Field.

Teagan Wehr added a 3-for-4 day with one RBI and one run scored for the Hurricanes. Emmie Scherer had two singles and two RBIs, while Allie Scherer singled, doubled and scored twice for Schuylkill Haven.

For Minersville, Grace Sterner went 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Sara McGrath doubled and knocked in two runs for the Miners, who rallied for two runs in the seventh inning before falling short.

HEGINS — Freshman Alina Leonard pitched a four-inning perfect game as Tri-Valley defeated Nativity in a Division II game.

Leonard struck out 12 and walked none in facing the minimum 12 batters.

Mia Artz powered the offense by going 2-for-2 with a double and six RBIs. She also scored two runs.

Other top hitters for the Bulldogs included Cassi Snyder, 2-for-3, three runs; Olivia Witmer, 2-for-2, two runs, one RBI; and Leonard, 1-for-2 with two runs and two RBIs.

Blue Mountain 13, Mahanoy Area 1

ORWIGSBURG — Emmerson Frie slugged her fourth home run of the season and drove in three runs as Blue Mountain downed Mahanoy Area in a five-inning Division I game.

Addyson Fishburn went 2-for-3 with a double, two runs and two RBIs; Carla Boyer went 2-for-3 with two runs; and Avery Hudock tripled and knocked in a pair of runs for the Eagles, who scored eight runs in the first inning.

Chloe Brown took care of the pitching, tossing a two-hitter with 12 strikeouts and two walks.

Lilly Carl doubled and drove in a run for the Golden Bears.

WEATHERLY — Kamri Koppenhaver and Olivia Hand combined on a two-hit shutout as Williams Valley defeated Weatherly in a three-inning Division II game.

Koppenhaver struck out six in two innings, and Hand whiffed three in her one inning of work.

Sage Smeltz powered the offense by going 3-for-3 with a home run, three runs scored and four RBIs. Ally Underkoffler added a double and four RBIs for the Vikings.

Other top hitters for Williams Valley included Ella Kobularik, a triple, three RBIs and two runs; Quin Smeltz, a double and three RBIs; and Koppenhaver, 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

LANSFORD — Brigid Flynn and Peyton Miscannon teamed up on a two-hit shutout as North Schuylkill defeated Panther Valley in a three-inning Division I game.

Flynn struck out three in two innings, and Miscannon struck out the side in her one inning in the circle.

Jordanna Frie powered the offense by going 3-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs. Lindsay Brouse went 2-for-3 with two runs and three RBIs, while Gianna Capone went 2-for-3 with two RBIs for the Spartans. Flynn went 1-for-2 with three runs and two RBIs.

Games postponed

A pair of Division I games have been rescheduled.

Tuesday’s Lourdes at Tamaqua contest will be played April 14 at 4 p.m.

Thursday’s Lourdes at Mahanoy Area game will be played April 10 at 4:30 p.m.

In Division II, Tuesday’s Marian at Shenandoah Valley was postponed and will be played Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
