HS Baseball Weekend Roundup: Tri-Valley takes home Rothermel Tournament trophy

MINERSVILLE — The Tri-Valley baseball team is off to an impressive start to the 2025 season.
The Dawgs rolled past Minersville 14-4 in five innings in the championship game of the Russ Rothermel Memorial Tournament Saturday at Del Hauck Field in Minersville to remain undefeated through six completed game this year.
Jason Stewart went 3-for-4 during Saturday’s title game, with two doubles, three runs scored and four RBIs for Tri-Valley. Braeden Doyle pitched four innings, allowed two runs and struck out three as the start for the Dawgs. Peyton Schley pitched the fifth and struck out the side.
Doyle doubled and collected two RBIs for Tri-Valley, who fell behind to the Battlin’ Miners 2-0 after the top of the first inning. Gavin Klock doubled, and Parker Hatter added two RBIs for the Dawg. Tri-Valley stacked up the hits and led 10-2 at the end of two innings of play.
For Minersville (4-1), Logan Hutsko went 2-for-3 with a double and scored a pair of runs. Owen Fortna had a sacrifice fly and Nolan Plesnarski knocked in a run for the Miners.
Russ Rothermel was a 1966 graduate of Minersville High School. He was drafted by the Houston Astros. Minersville hosts an annual tournament in his honor. Check out his stats here.

MINERSVILLE — Ben Baneravage hit a walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the 11th inning as Panther Valley defeated Shenandoah Valley in a consolation matchup of the Rothermel Tournament.
Danny Wehr was the starter for the Panthers and pitched 6.2 innings. He allowed two runs, one earned, on one hit. He also collected 10 strike outs. Gavin Yuricheck doubled, and totaled three RBIs for Panther Valley (1-3).
For the Blue Devils (5-2), Brandon Boris hit a game-tying two-run home run to deep left field to send the game to extra innings, tied 3-3.
North Schuylkill 15, Shikellamy 2, 5 inn.
SHIKELLAMY — Chase Slotcavage scored three runs and knocked in four RBIs as North Schuylkill rolled past Shikellamy in a non-league game.
Hunter Rogers doubled twice, scored two runs and collected an RBI for the Spartans. Kole Rollenhagen totaled four RBIs for North Schuylkill, while Mark Monahan added two RBIs and was the winning pitcher.

TAMAQUA — Jake Yenser hit a two-RBI walk-off single as Tamaqua stunned East Stroudsburg South in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Mason Ligenza homered and Luke Kane chipped in a sacrifice fly for the Blue Raiders (5-0), who trailed 3-2 heading into the bottom of the seventh.
Brayden Witowski singled with two outs before Ligenza was intentionally walked in the home half of the seventh. After fighting off three consecutive foul balls, Yenser ripped a line drive into left field that scored both runners.

Notre Dame East-Stroudsburg 2, 5 inn.
MAHANOY CITY — Levi Terry and Joe Rick each collected three RBIs as Mahanoy Area cruised past Notre Dame East-Stroudsburg in a non-league game to earn the Golden Bears first win of the season.
Terry earned the win on the hill for Mahanoy Area, he allowed two runs on two hits and struck out five. Terry also two doubles and a single at the plate.
