HS Baseball Roundup: Ligenza shines as Tamaqua blanks Pine Grove

PINE GROVE — Mason Ligenza pitched 6.2 innings, allowed one hit and struck out 16 as Tamaqua blanked Pine Grove 4-0 Thursday in a Schuylkill League Division I game at Walter M. Stump Stadium.

Ligenza, a standout lefty flamethrower, struck out the side in order in the bottom of the second. He collected five K’s in the first six batters he faced.

Landon Kamant drew a pair bases loaded walks to collect two RBIs for the Blue Raiders (4-0, 2-0) in the contest. Kamant also scored a run on a passed ball. Logan Morgans added an RBI on a bases loaded walk for Tamaqua.

Wyatt Snyder collected the Cardinals’ only hit on a single to left field in the bottom of the fourth. Quinn Brommer threw 6.1 innings for Pine Grove (3-2, 0-1) and struck out 12.

Tri-Valley 3, Panther Valley 1

LANSFORD — Parker Hatter and Peyton Schley each doubled and tallied an RBI as Tri-Valley edged Panther Valley in a Division I game.

Schley was also the reliever for starting pitcher Owen Miller. Miller pitched five innings for the Dawgs (5-0, 2-0) and allowed one run on five hits and struck out nine.

Brody Breiner went 3-for-4 with a double for the Panthers (0-3, 0-2).

Blue Mountain 11, North Schuylkill 4

FOUNTAIN SPRINGS — Aidan Grace pitched a complete game and struck out six as Blue Mountain rolled past North Schuylkill in a Division II game.

Ryan Clemas and Evan Setlock both collected two RBIs for the Eagles (3-2, 2-0). Clemas doubled, scoring two, and Frankie Russo added two doubles, and two runs scored.

For the Spartans, Kevin Jones and Chase Slotcavage each homered.

Schuylkill Haven 18, Mahanoy Area 4

SCHUYLKILL HAVEN — Hunter Correll hit a three-run home run and collected five RBIs as Schuylkill Haven rolled past Mahanoy Area in a Division II game.

Alan Evans doubled and later added a three-RBI triple in the bottom of the third inning. Brayden Fasnacht chipped in two RBIs for the Hurricanes.

Donavan Herman successfully scored on an error and gave the Golden Bears a brief 4-3 lead in the top of the third inning. Levy Terry went 2-for-3 with a double for the Bears.

Shenandoah Valley 10, Williams Valley 2

TOWER CITY — The Blue Devils tacked on six insurance runs in the top of the seventh inning as Shenandoah Valley cruised by Williams Valley in a Division II game.

Chase McCole went 3-for-5 with a double and three RBIs for the Blue Devils (5-1, 2-0), who led 4-2 after six innings. McCole relieved starting pitcher Brayden Maksimik, who pitched six innings, allowed one hit and struck out nine. Johnny Burke also tallied two RBIs for Shenandoah Valley.

For the Vikings (2-2, 1-1), Chase Deibert and Fletcher Thompson each had an RBI.

Marian 15, Weatherly 3, 3 inn.

HOMETOWN — Jimmy Cannon went 3-for-3 with two RBIs and two run scored as Marian rolled past Weatherly in a Division II game.

Rocco Griguoli went 3-for-4 for the Colts and collected four RBIS and three runs scored. Jacob Berlanda was the starter for Marian (2-3, 1-1), he pitched all three innings, allowed two hits and struck out five.

Trent Higgins and Bradlee Connors each had a hit for the Wreckers (1-2, 0-2).

West Scranton 6, Pottsville 5

POTTSVILLE — Dominic Rynard doubled and added a pair of RBIs as Pottsville fell to West Scranton in a non-league game.

The Crimson Tide led 5-4 after six innings of play until West Scranton pushed across two runs on errors in the top of the seventh inning. Max Clews and Alan Kushwarra each added an RBI for the Tide.
