HS Baseball Weekend Roundup: Minersville, Tri-Valley advance to Rothermel Tournament final

MINERSVILLE — Nolan Plesnarski pitched five innings, struck out seven and took home the win as Minersville blanked Panther Valley 7-0 Saturday in the opening round of the Russ Rothermel Memorial Tournament at Del Hauck Field.
Plesnarski added two hits as part of the Battlin’ Miners efficient offense. A.J. Halford collected three RBIs for Minersville (2-0), while Logan Hutsko and Dante Carr each chipped in one. Logan Rizzardi blasted a double that plated a run for the Miners.
Cam Rogers slammed the door for Minersville by striking out three across two innings in relief. The Battlin’ Miners’ pitching was backed by fundamental defense, highlighted by a double play by Easton Schultz and Garrett Sukeena in the middle infield during the top of the seventh inning.
For the Panthers (0-1), six different batters tallied a hit and Danny Wehr struck out four across two scoreless innings on the mound.
The tourney continues as scheduled this upcoming Saturday as Minersville takes on Tri-Valley in the championship at 3 p.m. at Del Hauck Field. Panther Valley plays Shenandoah Valley in a consolation game at noon at the same venue.

Tri-Valley 15, Shenandoah Valley 2, 6 innings
MINERSVILLE — Jason Stewart and Braeden Doyle each collected four RBIs as Tri-Valley rolled past Shenandoah Valley in six innings in the opening round of the annual Rothermel Tournament.
Stewart hit a grand slam home run to cap the game at 15-2 in the bottom of the sixth inning. Bailey Clark and Owen Miller both doubled for the Dawgs. Owen Miller and Peyton Schley combined to strike out six Blue Devils.
For Shenandoah Valley, Landon Monaghan knocked in a run.

Pine Grove 11, Western Wayne 1, 6 innings
PINE GROVE — Wyatt Snyder pitched a six-inning complete game and fanned five as Pine Grove rolled past Western Wayne to capture the Cardinal Classic Championship.
Leading 4-1 in the bottom of the fourth, the Cardinals’ offense caught fire. Carson Lengle started the scoring with an RBI-single, then Quinn Brommer notched his second triple of the game and pushed across a run. Snyder scored Brommer with an RBI-single. Later in the inning, Brayden Lyons added an RBI-single and Kale Lengle tallied an RBI on a sacrifice fly. And lastly, Lyons took home on a past ball to collect the sixth point of the inning.
Pine Grove 6, Lake-Lehman 3
PINE GROVE — Quinn Brommer earned the victory as the pitcher for Pine Grove after tossing 5.1 innings of relief and allowing one run on two hits as the Cardinals edged Lake-Lehman in the opening round of the Cardinal Classic.
Brommer added seven strikeouts across his 5.1 innings pitched, while Pine Grove’s offense came through in the bottom of the second. Brayden Lyons doubled and pushed across one run, Ian Brown followed with an RBI-single and Carson Lengle capped the scoring by adding two more runs on a single.
Western Wayne 10, Nativity 0, 5 innings
PINE GROVE — Western Wayne’s Lance Maiocco held Nativity to only two hits across four innings as the Wildcats blanked the Hilltoppers in the opening round of the Cardinal Classic.
Zeno Rugh and Nick Wagner each singled for Nativity.

Rugh slugged two RBIs for the Hilltoppers, while Karinch added a double. Ryan Examitis also doubled for Nativity.

Rocco Griguoli hit a solo home run to left field in the bottom of the fifth inning for the Colts. Cole Defrancisco collected a pair of RBIs for Marian.
