HS Softball: North Schuylkill slams Shamokin

FOUNTAIN SPRINGS — Olivia Jones had a big day at the plate and in the circle to lead North Schuylkill to a 14-4 victory over Shamokin in a non-league softball game Friday at Dot Seidel Field.

Jones went 3-for-3 with a double, four RBIs and a run scored. She also hurled five innings, allowing four hits and striking out 12.

She got plenty of offensive support from her teammates.

Jordanna Frie went 2-for-3 with two doubles, three runs scored and an RBI; Brigid Flynn went 2-for-4 with a double, a triple, two RBIs and two runs scored; Lyza Holmes went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored; and Lindsay Brouse went 2-for-2 with an RBI for the Spartans, who scored six runs in the bottom of the first inning.

SHENANDOAH — Lilly Carl and Olivia Kennedy combined on a one-hit shutout as Mahanoy Area defeated Shenandoah Valley in a non-league game at Bicentennial Park.

Carl went the first two innings and left with a 9-0 lead. Kennedy tossed the final three frames. The pitchers struck out four batters apiece.

The pitchers got a lot of offensive support. Hailey Mroczka went 3-for-4 with a triple, three RBIs and two runs scored. Ella Brode added a 3-for-3 day at the plate with a double, two runs scored and one RBI. Naomi Kowalick went 2-for-2 with four runs scored and one RBI, while Ella Connolly singled, scored twice and drove in two runs for the Golden Bears.

Emmaus 4, Blue Mountain 2

ORWIGSBURG — Avery Hudock and Carla Boyer had two hits apiece for Blue Mountain as Class 6A power Emmaus (3-0) edged the Eagles (2-1) in a non-league game at Patton Field.

Hudock finished 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored. Boyer went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Emmerson Frie hit her second home run of the season, a solo shot.

For Emmaus, Sadie Haefeli homered, while Julia DeFanti went 3-for-4 with two RBIs.

HAMBURG — Nico Conahan had two doubles and two runs scored for Tamaqua, but Hamburg topped the Blue Raiders in a non-league game atop Hawk Hill.

Kolbe Robb, Ceanna Gormley, Molly Evans and Veronica Scott added two hits apiece for Tamaqua. One of Gormley’s hits was a double.

For Hamburg, Nora Davey went 2-for-4 with a double, a triple, two runs scored and one RBI.
