Eckert went four innings to earn the win. She struck out nine and walked none.

Eckert helped herself at the plate by going 2-for-2 with two RBIs.

“I really liked our energy today,” Pottsville coach Chuck Rinaldo said. “Everybody looked like they were ready to play. Coming off the scrimmage (with Schuylkill Haven) the other day, we had some question marks, but we showed up today. We’re battling some illnesses, too.

“Starting off with Peyton Eckert, our pitcher. She really looked a lot better than she performed in the scrimmage. She was sick, too,” Rinaldo added. “We started a (freshman) catcher behind the plate in Olivia Wessner. She did a real nice job back there. Overall, our bats were alive, we ran the bases well, made some nice plays. To get a win today, first game of the season, we’ll take it.”
