Fans of the two Schuylkill League Class AA girls’ basketball teams remaining in the PIAA Tournament will have to embark on long road trips to see them play in Friday’s quarterfinals.
District 11 champion Williams Valley (24-3) and District 11 runner-up Marian (23-4) both advanced in the PIAA Class AA playoffs with victories Tuesday night. The Vikings outlasted Shalom Christian Academy 23-18 while Marian rallied to upend Elk Lake 47-45.
The wins put the Vikes and Fillies in the Elite Eight.
The PIAA announced the sites and times for Friday’s quarterfinals Wednesday afternoon. Williams Valley will take on District 2 champion Mountain View at 6 p.m. at Lake Lehman High School, while Marian will travel to Gettysburg High School to face District 5 champion Berlin Brothersvalley at 7 p.m.
Tickets for each game cost $8 (plus applicable fees) and must be purchased online at www.piaa.org.

Mountain View (23-4) advanced with a 45-33 win over District 1 champion Renaissance Academy, while Berlin (24-2) outgunned District 3 champion York Catholic 71-52. The other half of the Class AA girls’ bracket has District 6 runner-up Penns Manor (24-5) vs. District 9 winner Redbank (22-6), and District 6 champion Bishop McCort (24-4) taking on District 10 champ Kennedy Catholic (20-5).
The Class AA semifinals are set for Friday, March 21, with the Class AA state championship slated for Thursday, March 27, at noon at the Giant Center in Hershey.
