POTTSVILLE — Nativity has hired Steve Kleeman of the Minersville area as its new head softball coach.

Nativity Athletic Director Ruth Weidman made the announcement Thursday.

“Mr. Kleeman is the right person at the right time for Nativity BVM High School to lead the softball team,” Weidman said in a statement. “Our program has a diverse mix of abilities, and with Coach Kleeman’s background in the development of softball skills, we believe he will lead the program on a steady path toward competitiveness.”

Kleeman is a Pennsylvania State Police officer.

His coaching experience is with the Pottsville Girls’ Softball League and Dirt Dawgs travel team based out of Hegins.

He served as a Master Sergeant for 25 years in the United States Air Force.

With Kleeman’s hiring, just one of the 16 head coaching positions in the Schuylkill League remains open. Blue Mountain, which lost head coach Mike Rollman to his tragic passing earlier this month, is expected to finalize its plans moving forward at a school board meeting Feb. 27.

Kleeman is one of several new head coaches this season. Others include Mick Connolly (Mahanoy Area), Lyndsey Reinoehl (Marian), Kate Rittenbaugh (Minersville) and Jack Flynn (North Schuylkill).
