HS Wrestling: Pine Grove, Panther Valley, Tri-Valley girls learn regional pairings

QUAKERTOWN — A potential state championship rematch looms as the Southeast Regional Girls’ Wrestling Championships released its pairings Tuesday.
At 235 pounds, District 11 champion and Panther Valley junior Brenda Banks (29-1) could face District 1/12 champion and Souderton sophomore MacKenna Atkinson (25-2) should both reach the finals.
Banks and Atkinson met four times last season, with Banks prevailing all four times. She won 10-1 and by fall in 1:57 during the regular season. Banks won again 7-1 in the Southeast Regional final and 3-0 in the PIAA final as Banks became a two-time state champion. The wrestlers have not met this season.

Panther Valley teammate Alisa Williams (170) will join Banks at regionals.
Pine Grove qualified three for regionals: Geanna Lemke (142), Eve Kurtz (148) and Audrey Graeff (190). Kurtz enters as a District 11 champion.
The tournament will begin at noon Sunday at Quakertown High School with the quarterfinals in the eight-girl bracket. District 11 will send its top three while the District 1/12 subregional will send its top five.
The championship semifinals and consolation quarterfinals will start at 1 p.m., the consolation semifinals at 2 p.m. and the fifth-place bouts at 3 p.m. After clearing the gym, the parade of champions will start at 4:45 p.m. with bouts for first and third places at 5 p.m. on two mats.
The top four placewinners in each weight class will qualify for the PIAA Wrestling Championships on March 6-8 at the Giant Center in Hershey.

Tri-Valley girl to wrestle in regionals
MILLERSVILLE — Tri-Valley junior Maggie Hoffman-Long will compete in the Southcentral Regional Girls’ Wrestling Championships on March 1 at Penn Manor High School.
Hoffman-Long, a 136-pounder, qualified by placing fourth in the District 3 Section I Tournament.
The three District 3 sections will send four wrestlers apiece to regionals for a 12-girl bracket. The top four placewinners in each weight class will qualify for the PIAA Wrestling Championships on March 6-8 at the Giant Center in Hershey.
Action will begin at 10 a.m. on four mats and continue until completion.
