MAHANOY CITY — Jace Yedsena, Tanner Zawada and Ryan Zilker were not going to be denied the top spot in the Schuylkill League playoff picture.

Yedsena paced Mahanoy Area with a game-high 16 points as the Golden Bears downed Blue Mountain 55-41 in a Schuylkill League Division I boys’ basketball game Tuesday at the Mickey Holland Gymnasium.

The win helps Mahanoy Area (20-2, 12-2 in D-I) clinch the Division I co-championship shared by Minersville (18-3, 12-2 in D-I), who rolled past Pine Grove 71-47 on Tuesday.

Yedsena collected seven of his game-high 16 in the second quarter as the Golden Bears outscored the Eagles 16-9 in the frame and led 32-27 at halftime. Zawada and Zilker both added 14 points for Mahanoy Area.

For Blue Mountain (12-9, 8-6 in D-I), Tyeirre Meade netted a team-high 13 points.

As things sit Tuesday evening, the Golden Bears will earn the No. 1 seed based on their District 11 power rating, with Mahanoy Area at 0.731819 and the Battlin’ Miners at 0.722262.
