HS Basketball Roundup: Battlin’ Miners, Dawgs build momentum; Hilltoppers clinch Division II crown

MINERSVILLE — The end of the regular season is closing in and the Minersville Battlin’ Miners are peaking at the right time.

Dante Carr paced a quartet of double-digit scorers with a game-high 22 points as Minersville rolled past North Schuylkill 82-34 in a Schuylkill League Division I boys’ basketball game Friday at the Thomas Fitzpatrick Gymnasium.

Bradley Kostishak chipped in 12 points for the Battlin’ Miners (16-3, 10-2 in D-I), have won 11 of their last 12 contests. Logan Hutsko followed with 11 points and Shazier Bethea added 10 for Minersville.

For the Spartans, Max Gallagher netted a team-high 11 points.

Following Mahanoy Area’s 36-34 loss to Pottsville on Friday, the Golden Bears (19-2, 10-2 in D-I) and Battlin’ Miners are tied for the top spot in Division I.

HEGINS — Braeden Doyle netted a team-high 19 points as Tri-Valley cruised past Weatherly in a Division II game.

Trey Porter poured in 14 points for the Dawgs, who jumped ahead 18-9 by the end of the first quarter. Matt Raulston chipped in 12 points for Tri-Valley.

Corbin Wagner scored a game-high 27 points for the Wreckers, who clinched a Schuylkill League playoff berth after Williams Valley’s loss to Marian Friday.

Tyeirre Meade chipped in 13 points and Cohen Kirby added 11 for the Eagles, who led 24-19 at halftime.

For the Cardinals, Quinn Brommer scored a game-high 18 points and Hayden Felty totaled 12.

TAMAQUA — Luke Kane led all scorers with 20 points and Noah Mateyak added 18 and surpassed 1,000 career points as Tamaqua cruised past Panther Valley in a Division I game.

Ace Schickram chipped in 11 points for the Blue Raiders.

Hollyn Sampson chipped in 12 points for the Cardinals.

For the Panthers, Natalie Vermillon hit six 3-pointers and collected a team-high 18 points. Vermillon broke the Panther Valley girls’ single season record for 3’s with 64 for the season. The previous record was held by Macey Markovich (60). Morgan Orsulak chipped in 11 points for the Panthers.
