HS Basketball Roundup: Williams Valley boys, girls notch victories

TOWER CITY — It was a game Williams Valley needed to have.
Gabe Rodriguez made sure the Vikings got it done.
Rodriguez hit four 3-pointers and scored a game-high 20 points as Williams Valley defeated Lourdes 63-55 in a Schuylkill League Division II boys’ basketball game Wednesday night.
Brady Shomper added 18 points and Evan Achenbach tallied 17 as the Vikings (8-10-1, 6-6 D-II) stayed two games behind Weatherly (11-7, 8-4) in the battle for the final Schuylkill League Division II playoff spot and moved within one league win of qualifying for the District 11 Class 3A tournament.
Shomper had seven points and Achenbach six in the second quarter, when the Vikes used a 19-4 run to build a 39-18 halftime lead.
Trebor Moore had five 3-pointers and 17 points for Lourdes, while Brighton Scicchitano had 13 and Gaven Renn and Billy Rishel each added 11. The Red Raiders outscored the Vikings 37-14 in the second half.

LANSFORD — Logan Fisher paced a quartet of double-digit scorers with 16 points as the Panthers downed Lehigh Valley Academy Charter in a non-league game.
Connor Penberth and Brady Jones each added 12 points and Chase Krynock netted 10 for Panther Valley, which hit 10 3-pointers. The Panthers used a 16-9 run in the second quarter to take control, then tallied 25 points in the third quarter to pull away.

MINERSVILLE —- Mallory Miller drained six 3-pointers and scored a game-high 23 points as the Vikings rolled past the Miners in a non-league game at the Thomas Fitzpatrick Gymnasium.
Miller had 17 points in the first half as Williams Valley built a 31-12 halftime lead. Sage Smeltz added 18 points for the Vikings.
Emma Troutman led the Miners with six points.

SHENANDOAH — Gianna Donovan and Morgan Labosky each scored 14 points as the Blue Devils outlasted the Dawgs in a Schuylkill League Division II game.
Donovan had eight points and Labosky seven in the second quarter to help Shenandoah Valley take a 27-22 halftime lead. The Devils then held on in the second half.
Faith Artz scored 14 points for Tri-Valley.

Audrey Hutchinson led four players in double figures with 11 points, while McKenna Runkle collected 10 points, seven rebounds and five steals and Alea Porter had 10 points.
Schuylkill Haven held Palisades scoreless in the first quarter, leading 16-0.
