HS Basketball Roundup: Tamaqua gets 700th victory, Haven qualifies for league playoffs

TAMAQUA — It was a night to remember for the Tamaqua girls’ basketball team.

The Blue Raiders earned the 700th victory in school history Monday with a 47-19 win over Minersville on Senior Recognition Night.

The program also honored the memory of late Pennsylvania State Trooper Peter Conforti, a Tamaqua grad who passed away last year, with a halftime ceremony in which the school made a large donation to the Conforti family.

On the court, Lauren Ligenza scored a game-high 14 points as the Blue Raiders used a 17-2 run in the second quarter to take control. Kendle Miller hit three 3-pointers and added 11 points for Tamaqua.

The victory keeps Tamaqua (16-4, 8-4) a game ahead of Pine Grove (12-7, 6-5) in the battle for the third Schuylkill League playoff spot from Division I.

Emma Troutman and Alayna Boom each had five points for Minersville.

Schuylkill Haven 65, Panther Valley 28

SCHUYLKILL HAVEN — Alea Porter paced four players in double figures with 14 points as the Hurricanes topped the Panthers in a Division I game at the CACL Center.

With the victory, Schuylkill Haven clinched a Schuylkill League playoff berth for the second straight season.

Anna Schaeffer added 13 points, Mckenna Runkle netted 12 and Audrey Hutchinson collected 11 for Schuylkill Haven, which opened up a double-digit lead in the first quarter and led 34-16 at intermission.

Morgan Orsulak led Panther Valley with 13 points.

PINE GROVE — Addison Zimmerman buried five 3-pointers in the third quarter and finished with a game-high 18 points to lead the Cardinals past the Crimson Tide in a non-league game.

Four of those five 3-pointers came in a row as Pine Grove went on a 28-5 run after the teams were tied 26-26 at halftime. Hollyn Sampson added 15 points and Callee Leffler had 11 for Pine Grove.

Keirra Jones paced Pottsville with 15 points, while Jes Siminitus had 14.

SHENANDOAH — Felicia Bro scored a game-high 17 points as the Golden Bears cruised past the Blue Devils in a Division II contest.

Kayci McGowan and Ella Connolly each tallied 10 points for Mahanoy Area, which moved within one win of qualifying for the District 11 Class 3A playoffs. The Bears took control with a 16-2 run in the second quarter.

Aubrie Monaghan led Shenandoah Valley with seven points.
