ORWIGSBURG — There was no pomp and circumstance, no wild celebration.

For Blue Mountain, it’s all business when it comes to winning Schuylkill League swimming dual meets.

Both the Eagles’ boys and girls continued their unbeaten runs through league play Tuesday with convincing wins over archrival Pottsville at the Glen Belmont Natatorium. Blue Mountain won the boys’ meet 101-75, while the girls cruised to a 121-58 victory.

For the Blue Mountain boys, the win essentially secures the program’s seventh straight league title. The Eagles (10-1, 9-0 SL) lead the second-place Crimson Tide (10-2, 7-2) by two games with three meets left, plus hold the tiebreaker with the season sweep.

“Going into this meet we were down a kid, so it was looking a little interesting a couple of days earlier when we were looking at everything,” said senior standout Noah Powers, who took first in the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard freestyle and swam on two winning relays.

“But coming in here, getting it done, getting all the boys all hyped before the meet and make sure we all do our parts. It’s awesome getting that title again.”

Noah Powers wins the 100 freestyle:

For Powers, his high school career has come full circle. He emerged on the scene as a freshman that added another star to a team full of veterans. Now, he’s the experienced veteran, guiding a squad full of talented underclassmen.

Those underclassmen stepped up Tuesday, as junior Liam Magdeburg (200 free, 500 free) and freshman Porter Sarnes (100 fly, 100 back) each won two events and junior Gabe Kamarousky captured the 200 IM as Blue Mountain took nine of the 12 events.

Sarnes swam the key leg on the Eagles’ winning 200 medley relay team that trailed after the backstroke, while Kamarousky, freshman Zach Scala and sophomore Aidan Varney teamed with Powers to dominate the 200 freestyle relay.

“A lot of our kids dropped a lot of time today,” Powers said. “The biggest was Derek March in the 500 (freestyle). That was a huge time drop from him.

“Going from Rec to here is a big change. You’re adding like 100 more hours of practice work into it. There’s so many more meets, so many more different things. The team is building together strongly. A lot of good times coming out from these kids. We’re excited to keep going.”

March, a sophomore who was third in the 500 in a personal-best 5:43.91, is an example of the depth the Eagles have had during their seven-year run. The Eagles’ work ethic and dedication, says head coach Pete Sarnes, is the big reason for that success.

“They’re incredible,” Coach Sarnes said. “Some of these kids have been on this team for the last three years and I’ve been fortunate to coach them. They’ve bought into the program. They all push each other at practice. They all come in ready to work every single day.

“They all can swim anything at this point. There isn’t an event that I’m not confident about putting them in. They’ve worked very hard on being able to swim all four strokes this season. That is what I love about this team … they work so hard to accomplish what they have.”

Adam Klinger (diving) and Marty Davis (100 breaststroke) won individual events for Pottsville, which trailed just 39-30 after diving. Porter Sarnes and Kamarousky then went 1-2 in the 100 butterfly and the Eagles pulled away by outpointing the Tide in the next six events.

“They knew this meet was going to be tough and they came prepared today,” Pete Sarnes said of his squad. “They were ready to swim their hearts out.”

On the girls’ side, Blue Mountain cruised to its 109th straight Schuylkill League dual meet victory, winning 10 of 12 events.

Sage Kaplafka (50 free, 100 free), Julia Crossen (200 free, 500 free) each won two individual races and swam on two winning relays for Blue Mountain (10-1, 9-0 SL). Molly Stone (200 IM), Hailey Scheuer (diving) and Alayna Hensel (100 breast) added individual victories and the Eagles swept the relays.

The Eagles can clinch their 10th straight league crown with a win over Tamaqua (12-2, 9-1 SL) on Jan. 31.

Adalia LaSelva (100 fly) and Gianna LaSelva (100 back) earned victories for Pottsville (6-6, 4-5).
