Weekend Roundup: Marian boys upend Blue Mountain

HOMETOWN — Justin De La Cruz hit a 3-pointer in the closing seconds as Marian upset Blue Mountain 48-47 in a non-league boys’ basketball game Saturday afternoon.

Dominic Catrone scored all of his game-high 13 points in the second half for the Colts, who trailed 28-15 at halftime. He had eight points in the third quarter as Marian used a 16-7 run to get back in it. Gregory Tirpak added 10 points for the Colts.

Tyeirre Meade and Aidan Grace each had 12 points for Blue Mountain, with Grace scoring 11 of his points in the first half. Chase Baldwin added 10 points.

EAST STROUDSBURG — Jace Yedsena and Tanner Zawada combined for 36 points as the Golden Bears defeated the Spartans in a non-league game.

Yedsena had 19 and Zawada 17 as Mahanoy Area led 29-17 at intermission. Zawada then tallied nine points in the fourth quarter as the Bears closed the game with a 21-6 spurt.

William Mayberry drained four 3-pointers and tallied 14 points for Mahanoy Area, which improved to 14-0. Preston Protheroe scored a game-high 30 points for Notre Dame-East Stroudsburg.

MINERSVILLE — Logan Hutsko scored 14 points and Bradley Kostishak added 11 as the Miners used a balanced attack to down the Hilltoppers in a non-league game at the Thomas Fitzpatrick Gymnasium.

Hutsko had 10 of his points in the first half as Minersville raced out to a 44-22 halftime lead.

Trey Keating scored 16 points and Sam Walborn hit four 3-pointers and tallied 14 points for Nativity.

WEATHERLY — Niko Saldukas poured in 21 points and Ian McKeegan tallied 17 as the Wreckers ran past CMVT in a non-league game.

McKeegan had eight of his points in the third quarter as Weatherly used a 22-9 run to pull away from a 27-18 halftime lead. Corbin Wagner added 12 points for the Wreckers.

SCHUYLKILL HAVEN — Alan Evans scorched the nets for a game-high 31 points as the Hurricanes snapped a six-game losing streak with a non-league win over the Tigers.

Evans scored 24 of his points in the second half. The sophomore guard was 19-of-22 from the foul line, including 11-of-12 in the fourth quarter.

Brady Kelly added 13 points for Haven, scoring 10 points in the first half as the Hurricanes built a 28-15 halftime lead.

Morgan Orsulak added 14 points and five rebounds for Panther Valley, which led 38-6 at intermission.

Kaylee Seltzer added 14, Callee Leffler tallied 12, Ayla Schneck-Haines netted 11 and Addison Zimmerman compiled 10 as Pine Grove snapped a four-game losing streak with its biggest offensive output of the season.

The Cardinals hit nine 3-pointers and led 31-7 after one period.

Klinger breaks school mark as Pottsville gets sweep

COAL TOWNSHIP — Adam Klinger broke his own school record in the 6-dive competition as Pottsville swept a tri-meet with Shamokin and Mifflinburg.

The Tide downed Shamokin 100-54 and topped Mifflinburg 108-24.

Klinger scored 255.90, beating his previous mark of 252.65 set in December.

Caiden Wright (200 free, 500 free) won two events and Killian Bressler won the 100 freestyle for Pottsville (9-1), which swept the relays.

COAL TOWNSHIP — Gianna LaSelva (200 free, 100 back), Adalia LaSelva (50 free, 100 fly) and Elizabeth Martinko (200 IM, 100 breast) each won two individual events and swam on a winning relay as the Tide swept a tri-meet with Shamokin and Mifflinburg.

Pottsville (6-4) defeated Shamokin 95-56 and Mifflinburg 123-0.

Ciera Kline (diving) and Kahmaya Van Orden (500 free) added wins for the Tide.
