Boys’ Basketball Roundup: Blue Mountain, Minersville continue to surge

PINE GROVE — It was a clutch fourth quarter performance for Blue Mountain.

Tyeirre Meade scored a game-high 22 points and posted six points in the final quarter of action to lead the Eagles past Pine Grove 61-45 Tuesday in a Schuylkill League Division I boys’ basketball game at Pine Grove.

Leading the Cardinals 40-39 at the end of the third quarter, Blue Mountain collected 21 points on offense and held Pine Grove to six points in the final frame.

Chase Guers chipped in five points during the crucial fourth quarter and totaled nine points in the contest. Merik Brayford added 11 for the Eagles.

For Pine Grove, Hayden Felty hit five 3-pointers and totlaed a team-high 19 points and Quinn Brommer collected 12.

BLUE MOUNTAIN (61) — Meade 9 2-2 22, Reid 0 2-2 2, Guers 4 1-3 9, Grace 1 0-0 3, Kirby 0 0-0 0, Baldwin 1 5-8 7, Gaddy 1 0-0 2, Brayford 4 0-0 11, Tomeo 1 0-0 3. Totals 21 10-15 51.

Minersville 54, North Schuylkill 28

MINERSVILLE — Dante Carr posted a game-high 17 points and Shazier Bethea chipped in 15 as the Battlin’ Miners rolled past North Schuylkill in a Division I game.

Carr and Bethea combined for 15 of Minersville’s 21 points in the third quarter. Minersville outscored the Spartans 21-5 in the frame and led 40-18 heading to the fourth quarter.

For North Schuylkill, Julian Nelson netted a team-high eight points.

WEATHERLY — Braeden Doyle tied a game-high 19 points as Tri-valley edged Weatherly in a Division II matchup.

Trey Porter poured on 15 points, Gavin Klock collected 14 and Blake Schwartz added 12 for the Dawgs.

For the Wreckers, Niko Saldukas tied a game-high 19 points, followed by Ian McKeegan with 13 and Corbin Wagner with 10.

Tamaqua 63, Panther Valley 52

LANSFORD — Noah Mateyak totaled a game-high 23 points as Tamaqua knocked off Panther Valley in a Division I matchup.

Cooper Ansbach netted 16 points for the Blue Raiders, who outscored the Panthers 25-21 in the fourth quarter.

For Panther Valley, Logan Fisher scored a team-high 14 points, Brady Jones chipped in 12 and Brody Breiner added 11.

Williams Valley 51, Marian 40

 TOWER CITY — Evan Achenbach scored a game-high 23 points as the Vikings downed the Colts in a Division II contest.

Achenbach had six points in a 10-0 run to start the fourth quarter that gave Williams Valley a 46-30 lead with 3:34 left. The Colts wouldn’t get any closer than nine points the rest of the way.

Brady Shomper added 16 points for Williams Valley. Gregory Tirpak drained seven 3-pointers and finished with 21 points for Marian.
