HS Basketball Roundup: Tamaqua boys, girls capture victories

SCHUYLKILL HAVEN — Cooper Ansbach scored a game-high 23 points as Tamaqua snapped a four-game losing streak with a 76-67 victory over Schuylkill Haven in a non-league boys’ basketball game Monday at the CACL Center.

Noah Mateyak added 19 points and Luke Kane added 14 as the Blue Raiders (2-8) opened up a five-point lead after one frame and kept adding to it. Kane tallied eight of his points in the first period, while Ansbach had nine in the second quarter.

Alan Evans and Brady Kelly each scored 22 points for Schuylkill Haven (5-6), which has lost four straight. Max Heim added 14. The teams combined for 18 3-pointers, with the Hurricanes hitting 11.

TAMAQUA — Lauren Ligenza notched a double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds as the Blue Raiders won their seventh straight with a non-league win over the Huskies.

Leah Black added seven points and Kendle Miller collected eight rebounds for Tamaqua, which opened the game on a 10-2 run and never looked back.

BOYERTOWN — Alea Porter scorched the nets for a game-high 20 points as the Hurricanes defeated a Class 6A school for the first time in school history.

Kylie Siket scored all 12 of her points in the second half as Haven broke a 19-19 halftime tie with an 18-10 run in the third quarter. Mckenna Runkle added 10 rebounds and six steals.

Madeline Weaver had 17 points to pace Boyertown.

MIDDLETOWN — The Eagles didn’t dent the scoreboard until the second quarter in suffering a non-league loss at unbeaten Middletown.

Middletown, which leads the District 3 Class 5A power rankings, opened the game with a 19-0 run, finishing with three players in double figure.
