HS Basketball Roundup: Four local teams win holiday tournament crowns

TOWER CITY — Getting ahead early in games has paid off for Tri-Valley.
Gavin Klock scored a game-high 16 points, Trey Porter collected 15 and Blake Schwartz added 10 as the Dawgs rolled past Williams Valley 53-31 to capture the championship of the WQLV Tournament on Saturday at Williams Valley High School.
Tri-Valley (8-1) led the Vikings 10-2 after the first quarter and consistently maintained the lead.
Williams Valley (4-5) pulled sliced its deficit in the second quarter, trailing the Dawgs 15-10. Klock, Porter and Schwartz helped execute the consistent scoring attack that was the theme of Tri-Valley’s weekend. The Dawgs led 22-12 at half before rolling to a championship victory on its Schuylkill League rival’s home court.
In a similar way in Friday’s first-round game, Tri-Valley accumulated a 40-8 led at halftime before going on to defeat Millersburg 66-27 and advance to the finals.

Connor Penberth chipped in 10 points for the Panthers.
For the Colts, Bryan Ferreira and Justin De La Cruz each totaled 12 points.

EASTON — Jude Maziekas and Zack Marcinowski tied with a team-high 19 points as North Schuylkill defeated Notre Dame-East Stroudsburg in a non-league game.
After the first quarter ended tied at 10 points apiece, the Spartans pulled away as Maziekas collected 11 of his 19 points in the second quarter to give North Schuylkill a 28-16 halftime cushion.
