HS Girls’ Basketball: Vikings, Cards, Fillies advance to tourney title games

TOWER CITY — Sage Smeltz scored a game-high 22 points as unbeaten Williams Valley rolled past Upper Dauphin 48-22 in the opening round of the WQLV Tournament on Friday afternoon.
Smeltz scored 15 of her points in the first half as the Vikings (8-0) built a 31-13 halftime lead.
Quin Smeltz added nine points for Williams Valley, which advances to face Millersburg in the championship game at 6 p.m. Saturday. Millersburg defeated Tri-Valley 36-24 in the other first-round matchup.

TOWER CITY — Avery Miller scored a game-high 18 points as the Dawgs fell to the Indians in the opening round of the WQLV Tournament at Williams Valley.
Tri-Valley led 18-16 at halftime but was outscored 20-6 in the second half, including 12-2 in the final period. Olivia Dyer tallied 17 points and Emma Miller scored 14 for Millersburg.
Tri-Valley will face Upper Dauphin in the girls’ consolation game at 3 p.m. Saturday.

PINE GROVE — Callee Leffler paced a balanced attack with 13 points and Hollyn Sampson added 12 as the Cards cruised past Fleetwood in the opening round of the Cardinal Classic.
Leffler had nine of her points — all on 3-pointers — in the first half as Pine Grove raced out to a 21-2 lead after one frame that reached 35-12 by halftime. Sampson tallied eight of her points in the second half.
Pine Grove will face ELCO, a 55-31 winner over Shenandoah Valley, in the championship game at 4:30 p.m. Saturday.

PINE GROVE — A rough second quarter spelled doom for the Blue Devils in a loss to the Raiders in the opening round of the Cardinal Classic.
Gianna Donovan scored a team-high 10 points for Shenandoah Valley, which was outscored 17-3 in the second quarter and trailed 33-14 at intermission.
The Blue Devils will take on Fleetwood in the girls’ consolation game at 1:30 p.m. today.

HOMETOWN — Abby Fritz hit four of Marian’s nine 3-pointers and scored a game-high 18 points as the Fillies cruised past the Olympians in the opening round of the Marian Christmas Tournament.
Olivia Serfass and Addy Marek each added 10 points for Marian, which led 17-2 after one period and 35-7 at halftime.
The Fillies will face New Hope-Solebury (7-0), a 62-44 winner over Oley Valley, in Saturday’s championship game at 5 p.m. Oley Valley and Jim Thorpe will play in the consolation game at 1 p.m.
