Weekend Basketball Roundup: Marian girls knock off ACC

ALLENTOWN — Addy Fritz paced a quartet of double-digit scorers with 12 points as Marian knocked off Allentown Central Catholic 49-32 in a non-league girls’ basketball game Saturday afternoon.

Fritz hit two of Marian’s eight 3-pointers. Deanna Pugh had three triples and 11 points, Olivia Serfass also had 11 points and Addy Marek had two 3-pointers and 10 points.

Marian took control with a 12-6, second-quarter run, then pulled away in the fourth as Fritz had six of her points and Marek tallied five.

KUTZTOWN — Addie Zimmerman scored 12 of her 14 points in the first half as the Cardinals secured a road non-league win at Kutztown.

Zimmerman’s big first half helped Pine Grove build a 29-13 halftime advantage. Hollyn Sampson then added six of her 12 in the third quarter and Ayla Schneck-Haines iced it in the fourth by shooting 6-of-8 from the foul line.

Schneck-Haines led all scorers with 16 points, connecting on 8-of-11 from the foul line.

FOUNTAIN SPRINGS — Jude Maziekas scored a game-high 15 points as the Spartans notched their first win of the season with a non-league victory Saturday afternoon over the Blue Devils at the Cesari-Hope Gymnasium.

Maziekas scored eight of his points in the fourth quarter as the Spartans closed the game on a 13-5 run to seize the victory.

Brayden Maksimik scored a team-high nine points for Shenandoah Valley, which shot 2-for-10 from the foul line.

FREDERICKSBURG — Tyeirre Meade scored 10 of his 15 points in the second half as the Eagles knocked off the Vikings in a non-league game.

Meade had five points in a 12-4, third-quarter run that allowed Blue Mountain to overcome a 20-19 halftime deficit. Chase Guers added nine points and Aidan Grace tallied eight in Blue Mountain’s balanced attack.

TOWER CITY — Bryce Zilinski scored 14 points and Brady Shomper added 13 as the Vikings held off the Cardinals in a back-and-forth non-league clash.

Zilinski scored nine of his points in the third quarter as the Vikes used a 19-14 frame to take a 43-39 lead. Williams Valley had led 12-2 after one period before Pine Grove rallied for a 25-24 halftime lead.

Hayden Felty scored a game-high 24 points for Pine Grove, 12 of which came in that second quarter. Chase Sarge added 10.

POTTSVILLE — The Crimson Tide dropped to 5-3 overall with a non-league loss to the Scouts (6-3) on Saturday afternoon at Martz Hall. No further details were provided.

In other action Saturday, Bloomsburg topped Lourdes 47-40.

Games Postponed

The following girls’ basketball games were postponed Saturday — North Schuylkill at Shamokin (Jan. 2) and Mount Carmel at Schuylkill Haven (Feb. 1).

The non-league swim meet between Tamaqua and Moravian Academy was also postponed.
