Swimming Roundup: Powers breaks breaststroke mark as Eagles excel at Diplomat Invite

LANCASTER — Noah Powers broke the Blue Mountain school record in the 100-yard breaststroke as the Eagles competed Saturday at the Diplomat Invitational at Franklin and Marshall College.
Powers finished second in the event in 59.66 seconds, breaking Nathanael Marino’s previous mark of 1:00.83 set in 2014. Powers had a big day, winning the 50 freestyle in 20.52 and the 100 freestyle in 45.75 while helping Blue Mountain place second in the 200 medley relay and third in the 200 freestyle relay.
Porter Sarnes also had five top-10 finishes, placing second in the 500 freestyle, sixth in the 200 freestyle and ninth in the 100 butterfly. Brody Moyer was fifth in the 100 backstroke and eighth in the 100 butterfly, while Liam Magdeburg was ninth in the 500 freestyle.
On the girls’ side, Sage Kaplafka was fourth in the 100 free, fifth in the 50 free and fifth in the 100 back while helping the Eagles place sixth in the 200 medley relay and 200 freestyle relay. Julia Crossen was seventh in the 500 freestyle.
The meet attracted 20 teams, including some of the top squads from District 3. Blue Mountain was the only school from the Schuylkill League or District 11 to participate.

WHITEHALL — Noah Bevan took first in the 50 freestyle and 100 backstroke and swam on two winning relays as the Crimson Tide claimed a non-league win over Whitehall on Saturday.
Killian Bressler (200 IM) and Marty Davis (100 breast) added individual wins for Pottsville (5-1).
