High School Wrestling: Pine Grove upends North Schuylkill
Pine Grove's Isaiah Miller led off with a pin Saturday to help the Cardinals defeat North Schuylkill 40-35 in a non-league dual meet.
PINE GROVE — Aaron Osatchuck posted a fall in the final bout to lift Pine Grove over North Schuylkill 40-35 on Saturday in a non-league boys’ wrestling dual meet.
The Cardinals (4-0) trailed 35-28 with two bouts left. Gage Cleary (133) pinned Noah Leib in 2:29 to cut the deficit to one point, and Osatchuck (139) followed by pinning Michael Grady in 1:19.
Pine Grove finished with a 7-6 edge in bouts won. The winner in all 13 matches produced bonus points for his respective team.
The squads traded decisive wins early as North Schuylkill (4-1) trailed 12-11 after four matches.
Pine Grove’s Isaiah Miller (145) and Austin Martin (160) had pins during the opening stretch. North Schuylkill answered with a 16-1 technical fall from Nate Sterner (152) ad a pin from Jaden Meyer (172).
The Cardinals then went on a three-bout run to extend their lead to 28-11 after seven matches.
Zach Kurtz (189) and Robbie Schaeffer (215) won by fall, and Scout Frantz (285) gained a 10-2 major decision over Sander Stokes.
Back came the Spartans with four straight falls to surge into a 35-28 lead. Evan Miernicki (107), Gaige Mentusky (114), Easton Edwards (121) and Stanley Padakowski (127) had pins during the run.
Cleary and Osatchuck responded with pins of their own to enable Pine Grove to pull out the victory.

Wes Mansell (152) earned a 19-11 major decision over Alexander LaMas, and Keenan Hall (114) topped Brayden Mirack 8-4 for the Eagles (8-1).

Tide compete at KOM tourney
MILL HALL — Terrell McFarland (189) placed sixth for Pottsville in the 32-team King of the Mountain Tournament at Central Mountain High School.
McFarland posted a pair of falls and a 10-2 major decision to reach the semifinals. There, he got pinned by Greater Latrobe’s Hunter Snyder in 1:14. McFarland had medical forfeits in his two consolation rounds.
Pottsville finished 28th in the team standings. Montoursville won the team title with 156 points. Central Mountain placed second with 142. Altoona (137.5), State College (123) and Mifflin County (118) rounded out the top five.
Haven wrestles at ELCO Duals
MYERSTOWN — Jack Krammes (152) and Seth Goines (160) had 3-2 records as Schuylkill Haven dropped five competitions at the ELCO Duals.
The Hurricanes (1-8) fell to Conrad Weiser (60-14), Lancaster Catholic (42-30), Schuylkill Valley (66-12), Exeter Township (71-6) and Garden Spot (66-12).

3 Panthers place at BAGUBA
ELIZABETHTOWN — Anelia Bennick (155), Alisa Williams (170) and Brenda Banks (235) earned medals at the 20-team BAGUBA Brawl at Elizabethtown High School.
Banks, a two-time state champion, rolled into the finals before she lost by injury default in 4:00 to Bedford’s Mylah Steinbuch and settled for silver.
Bennick took fourth, and Williams finished fifth for the Panthers.
Maggie Hoffman-Long (142) placed fourth for Tri-Valley, which participates in a co-op with Upper Dauphin.
