Basketball Roundup: Marian rallies late to knock off Tri-Valley

HEGINS — The Schuylkill League Division II boys’ basketball standings got a little tighter Thursday night.
Bryan Ferreira scored 10 his 14 points in the final frame as Marian used a big fourth-quarter rally to upset previously unbeaten Tri-Valley 45-44.
The loss drops the Dawgs (5-1, 4-1 D-II) into a first-place tie with Nativity, which defeated Williams Valley 80-57, while Marian (4-3, 3-2) and Weatherly (4-3, 3-2) sit just one game back.
Trey Porter had a game-high 20 points for Tri-Valley, which led 19-15 at intermission and 35-28 after three frames. Marian, however, rallied in the fourth behind Ferreira. Jacob De La Cruz paced Marian with 19 points.

ORWIGSBURG — Tyeirre Meade scored 16 of his game-high 24 points in the first half as the Eagles flew past the Spartans in a Division I game.
Meade had nine of his points in Blue Mountain’s 11-2, game-opening run. The Eagles led 35-15 at halftime. Chase Baldwin added 13 points for Blue Mountain.
Zack Marcinowski led North Schuylkill with nine points.

MINERSVILLE — Dante Carr paced a trio of double-digit scorers with a game-high 21 points as the Miners rolled past the Panthers in a Division I game.
Carr had 15 of his points in the first half as Minersville built a 33-14 halftime advantage. Jordan Bowers added 12 points and Bradley Kostishak tallied 10 for the Miners.
Danny Wehr led Panther Valley with 12 points.

POTTSVILLE — Christian Alvarez scored 11 of his game-high 17 points in the second half as the Crimson Tide fended off the Cardinals in a Division I game at Martz Hall.
Ryder Bowers and Colin McGinley each hit a trio of 3-pointers for Pottsville, which outscored Pine Grove 33-22 in the middle quarters to take control. Bowers finished with 11 points, while McGinley had nine and Letrel Montone tallied eight.
Hayden Felty and Alex Dubbs each scored 10 points for Pine Grove.

TOWER CITY — Trey Keating continued his torrid scoring pace with a game-high 30 points as the Hilltoppers ran past the Vikings in a Division II game.
Keating had 16 points in the first half as Nativity raced out to a 57-27 lead. He added 14 more in the third quarter as the Hilltoppers built a 77-39 after three frames.
Noah Dolbin added 22 points for Nativity, while Layne Pasker had 12.
Brady Shomper paced Williams Valley with 17 points, while Evan Achenbach and Fletcher Thompson each added 10.

SHAMOKIN — Ian McKeegan scored a game-high 22 points as the Wreckers held off the Red Raiders in a Division II game.
McKeegan scored 14 of his points in the second quarter as Weatherly put together a 24-13 run to take a 37-28 halftime lead. McKeegan shot 10-of-14 from the foul line and the Wreckers hit 17-of-21 overall to ice it.
Corbin Wagner added 13 points for Weatherly, while Nick Saldukas and John Donish each tallied 11.
Gaven Renn scored 17 points, Billy Rishel had 16 and Brighton Scicchitano tallied 15 for Lourdes.

SHENANDOAH — Brayden Maksimik scored five of his team-high 21 points in overtime as the Blue Devils edged the Hurricanes in a Division II game.
Alan Evans buried six 3-pointers and led all scorers with 26 points for Schuylkill Haven. He had 13 of his points in the third quarter as the Hurricanes took a 39-33 lead into the fourth.
The Devils rallied, however, as Maksimik had six points and Izayah Lopez tallied five of his 12 in the fourth to force overtime. Maksimik then hit a jumper and his 3-pointer with 25 seconds left in OT put Shenandoah Valley ahead. Haven led by five points with 1:10 to go.

Freshman Lilly Carl nailed four 3-pointers and added 13 points and Ella Connolly also had 13 points for Mahanoy Area, which built a 28-16 halftime lead and pulled away in the third.
Morgan Labosky paced the Blue Devils with 13 points while Aubrie Monaghan added 11.
