Swimming Roundup: Wilson breaks pool record in Tamaqua girls’ win over North Schuylkill

Tamaqua's Savannah Wilson

TAMAQUA — Savannah Wilson etched her name in the Tamaqua swimming record books Tuesday evening.

The Blue Raiders standout broke the pool record in the 100-yard breaststroke in Tamaqua’s 115-64 victory over North Schuylkill in a Schuylkill League dual meet.

Wilson’s time of 1:09.18 broke the previous mark of 1:09.46 set by Panther Valley’s Samantha Vavra in 2006. In addition to breaking the pool record, Wilson won the 200 IM and swam on two winning relays.

Tamaqua (5-1, 4-0 SL) swept all three relays and won six out of nine individual events to defeat the Spartans (2-3, 1-3). Janna Brown (50 free), Audrey Nattress (100 fly), Lyla Clemson (500 free) and Kate Behun (100 back) were also victorious for the Blue Raiders.

North Schuylkill’s Kamryn Wolfe (200 free, 100 free) was a double winner, while Anabelle Bennett took first in diving.

ORWIGSBURG — Julia Crossen (200 free, 500 free) and Alayna Hensel (200 IM, 100 fly) each won two individual events and swam on a winning relay as Blue Mountain defeated Schuylkill Haven at the Glen Belmont Natatorium.

Sage Kaplafka (100 free), Hailey Scheuer (diving) added wins for Blue Mountain (5-0, 4-0). Hope Stauffer (50 free, 100 breast) won two events and Teagan Wehr took first in the 100 backstroke for the Hurricanes (3-2, 2-2).

Fabrizio J. Mangianello (200 IM), Joe Campbell (100 fly) and David Luna (500 free) also won for North Schuylkill. Vinny Valentine (diving) and Nicholas Barron (100 breast) took first for Tamaqua.

Zach Scala (100 free), Porter Sarnes (500 free) and Aidan Varney (100 breast) also won for Blue Mountain (5-0, 4-0). Ethan Miller (200 IM) and Luke Smith (diving) scored victories for Schuylkill Haven (2-2-1, 2-1-1).
