Girls’ Basketball Roundup: Haven tops Blue Mountain in OT; Red Raiders, Vikes stay unbeaten

ORWIGSBURG — In a defensive game from start to finish, Schuylkill Haven’s defense shined when it mattered most.
The Hurricanes shut out Blue Mountain in overtime to capture a 40-30 victory over the Eagles in a Schuylkill League Division I girls’ basketball contest Tuesday.
Mckenna Runkle scored four of her game-high 14 points and Alea Porter added six of her 12 points in the extra session as Schuylkill Haven outscored Blue Mountain 10-0 in the extra session.
Callie Peel scored all of eight of Blue Mountain’s points in the fourth quarter, shooting 6-for-6 from the foul line, as the game ended tied 30-30 at the end of regulation. Peel finished with a team-high12 points.
Runkle and Anna Schaeffer each had seven rebounds for Schuylkill Haven.

POTTSVILLE — Sisters Millie Black and Leah Black combined for 27 points as the Blue Raiders defeated the Tide in a Division I game at Martz Hall.
Millie Black tallied a game-high 15 points, scoring nine in a 16-2, third-quarter run. Leah Black had six of her 12 in the first quarter when Tamaqua broke out to a 15-3 lead. Millie Black finished with a double-double, pulling down 10 rebounds.
Jo Barnhart and Jes Siminitus each had six to lead Pottsville.

LANSFORD — Morgan Orsulak poured in a game-high 28 points to lead the Panthers to a Division I win over the Miners.
Orsulak had 17 of her points in the first half as Panther Valley built a 28-23 lead. She then added six in the fourth quarter to help the Panthers ice it.
Jenna Cullen also had a big game, scoring 20 points to lead Minersville.
