Boys’ Basketball Roundup: Minersville edges Blue Mountain in Division I thriller

MINERSVILLE — Dante Carr and Shazier Bethea each had six clutch points in the fourth quarter for Minersville.
The Battlin’ Miners defeated Blue Mountain 53-49 in a Schuylkill League Division I boys’ basketball game Monday at Minersville after trailing the Eagles 40-35 to end the third quarter.
Carr and Bethea combined for 12 of Minersville’s 18 fourth quarter points. The Miners outscored Blue Mountain 18-9 in the final frame.
For the Eagles, Tyeirre Meade netted a game-high 20 points.

Tanner Zawada chipped in 12 points for the Golden Bears, while William Mayberry added 11.
For the Panthers, Brady Jones netted a team-high 13 points and Ben Baneravage tallied nine.

ORWIGSBURG — Noah Powers broke the pool record in the 200-yard IM as the Eagles downed the Falcons in a non-league meet at the Glen Belmont Natatorium.
Powers was clocked in 1:59.22, breaking the previous mark of 1:59.93 set in 2010 by Muhlenberg’s Chow.
Powers (200 IM, 100 free) and Brody Moyer (50 free, 100 back) each won two individual events and swam on two winning relays for Blue Mountain (3-0), while Gabe Kamarousky (200 free), Porter Sarnes (100 fly), Liam Magdeburg (500 free) and Aiden Varney (100 breast) each won an event.
