High School Wrestling: Eagles’ Woll wins Solanco Mule Classic gold

QUARRYVILLE — Blue Mountain’s Owen Woll swept five matches to capture the 160-pound championship Saturday at the Solanco Mule Classic.

Woll had a pin and two technical falls en route to the title. In the finals, he defeated Jacob Ebaugh of St. Mark’s (Delaware) in the tiebreaker, 4-2.

Bradley Renninger (189) went 6-1 over the two-day event to place third. Renninger topped Dallastown’s Aiden Grim 12-0 in the bronze-medal bout.

Brian Brobst added a 5-2 tournament for seventh place at 133 for the Eagles.

Blue Mountain finished 10th in the 27-team field. Salesianum (Delaware) won the team title with 211.5 points. Central Dauphin (200.5) placed second.

Tide place 5th at Case-Flynn Duals

POTTSVILLE — Going 2-4, Pottsville placed fifth at the Case-Flynn Duals at Martz Hall.

The event is named in honor of Terry Case and Bill Flynn, two longtime supporters of Crimson Tide wrestling.

Pottsville (3-4) opened with a 35-34 win over Scranton. Falls by Brayden Evans (172) and Terrell McFarland (189) down the stretch keyed the victory.

Milton and Pottsville wrestled to a 36-36 tie with one bout left. The Tide’s Cole Cook (107) pinned Gavin Batman in 55 seconds to lift Pottsville to a 42-36 win.

The Tide fell to Whitehall (60-13), Southern Lehigh (42-28), Central Bucks West (56-18) and Palmerton (44-26).

Whitehall took the team title, with Palmerton second and Central Bucks West third. Southern Lehigh finished fourth, followed by Pottsville, Milton and Scranton.

Pine Grove places 7 at DKI tourney

BLOOMSBURG — Led by a runner-up performance from Aaron Osatchuck (139), Pine Grove had seven placewinners at the Darren Klingerman Invitational at Bloomsburg High School.

After three victories, Osatchuck fell 9-2 to Bloomsburg’s Alex Billmeyer in the finals.

Austin Martin (160) took third and Robbie Schaeffer (215) finished fourth for the Cardinals. Cameron Waite (107) and Gage Cleary (127) placed sixth, while Zach Kurtz (189) and Scout Frantz (285) finished seventh.

Pine Grove placed seventh in the 24-team field. Honesdale won the team title with 174.5 points, followed by Crestwood (163.5). Locally, Tamaqua took 13th, Mahanoy Area 16th and Schuylkill Haven 23rd.

For Tamaqua, Aiden Schlier finished second at 127. Sullivan County’s Colton Wade defeated Schlier 18-2 in the finals.

Evan Temarantz (133) and Brody Schlier (139) placed seventh, while Jacob Hehn (189) took eighth for the Blue Raiders.

For Mahanoy Area, Kyler Quick (189) finished fourth, while Jah Bushati (152) and Rory Dixon (160) placed sixth.

Dawgs place 2 at Top Hat

WILLIAMSPORT — Noah Hanlon (152) placed fifth and Owen Wolfgang (107) took eighth for Tri-Valley at the high-powered, 24-team Top Hat Tournament at Williamsport Area High School.

The Bulldogs placed 18th in the team standings. Connellsville won the team title with 220.5 points; Easton finished second with 212.5. Saucon Valley, Central Mountain and Clearfield rounded out the top five.

4 Blue Raiders place at tourney

ALLENTOWN — Kiely Kunkel (106-117) and Shayla Clay (190) placed second; Jalissa Correa (124) took third; and Rylin Arroyo (106-117) finished fourth for Tamaqua in the five-team Raptor Invitational hosted by Executive Education Academy Charter.

Kunkel had two falls before getting pinned by Executive Education’s Anabelle Ramos in the finals.

Lehighton won the team title with 133 points, followed by Upper Dauphin (116) and Tamaqua (36).
