HS Swimming: Blue Mountain’s Powers breaks more records

ORWIGSBURG — Noah Powers’ senior campaign got off to a record-breaking start Tuesday at the Glen Belmont Natatorium.
The two-time state champion broke the team and pool record in the 100-yard butterfly as Blue Mountain downed Marian 126-27 in the Schuylkill League dual-meet opener for both squads. The meet was Marian’s first official Schuylkill League dual meet as a team.
The Virginia-bound Powers was clocked in 52.02, which topped the pool record of 52.81 set by Schuylkill Valley’s Owen Eisenhofer and Powers’ own school record of 53.17 set last year.
Powers (100 fly, 100 back), Porter Sarnes (200 free, 500 free) and Aiden Varney (50 free, 100 free) each won two individual events for Blue Mountain, while Zach Scala (200 IM) and Gabe Kamarousky (100 breast) also notched wins.

FOUNTAIN SPRINGS — The Crimson Tide got individual wins from Caden Wright (200 free), Noah Bevan (200 IM), Adam Klinger (diving), Killian Bressler (100 free) and Jamison Walsh (100 breast) to down the Spartans at Don Bricker Natatorium.
Gavin Mentzer (50 free, 100 back) won twice for North Schuylkill, while Joe Campbell took first in the 100 butterfly and Chase Meyers won the 500 free.

SCHUYLKILL HAVEN — Freshman Ethan Miller broke the school record in the 500 freestyle in his first varsity meet as the Hurricanes dropped a non-league contest with Shamokin.
Miller was clocked in 5:09.05, breaking a mark that had stood since 2006. He added a victory in the 200 IM.

ORWIGSBURG — Marian’s Lydia Strucko broke the Glen Belmont Natatorium record in the 100 backstroke with a time of 59.32 as the Eagles downed the Fillies in a Schuylkill League dual meet.
Strucko, who also won the 200 IM and swam on a winning relay, broke the previous mark of 59.73 set by Cherney from Exeter in 2016.
Sage Kaplafka (50 free), Isabella Lafko (100 fly), Alayna Hensel (100 breast) and Julia Crossen (500 free) each won an individual event and swam on two winning relays for Blue Mountain.

Stauffer took first in the 50 free and 100 back, while Domermuth won the 200 IM and 100 fly. Taylor Fitzpatrick (diving, 500 free) also won two individual events for Haven, while Cali Stauffer won the 100 free and Allison Scherer placed first in the 200 free.
