Girls’ Volleyball: Pottsville falls to Southern Lehigh

CATASAUQUA — Southern Lehigh got the better of Pottsville in a clash of league champs.
Rhyan Brennan totaled eight digs and seven kills as the Crimson Tide fell to Southern Lehigh 14-25, 12-25, 25-27 in a District 11 Class 3A semifinal volleyball match at Catasauqua High School Monday.
The Spartans (20-0) defeated Jim Thorpe to win the Colonial League crown 3-1 on Oct., 17, while Pottsville swept Panther Valley on the same date to capture Schuylkill League gold.
Anna Burke chipped in five kills and four blocks, Lainey Dusel added 11 digs and three kills, Megan Yost had 18 assists and 13 digs, and Ava Schwartz collected eight digs, four kills and three aces for the Tide.
Pottsville (18-4) defeated Jim Thorpe 25-20, 25-21, 23-25, 25-16 in the D-11 Class 3A quarterfinal round before being upended by Southern Lehigh. The Spartans advance to take on the winner of Allentown Central Catholic and Bethlehem Catholic in the 3A championship Thursday at Catasauqua High School at 5 p.m.
