District 11 Cross Country Championships

When: Wednesday

Where: DeSales University, Center Valley

Race times: 1 p.m. — Class AA boys; 1:40 p.m. — Class AA girls; 2:20 p.m. — Class 3A boys; 3 p.m. — Class 3A girls; 3:40 p.m. — Class A boys; 4:20 p.m. — Class A girls

Course length: 3.1 miles (5,000 meters). Grass with hills.

2023 area top finishers (returnees only): Minersville boys, 1st in Class A, state qualifier; Minersville’s Kolin Long, 1st in Class A, state qualifier; Schuylkill Haven’s Carter Daniel, 4th in Class A, state qualifier; Marian boys, 2nd in Class A, state qualifier; Schuylkill Haven’s Anna Schaeffer, 6th in Class A girls, state qualifier; Tamaqua boys, 2nd in Class AA, state qualifier; Tamaqua’s Levi Kunkel, 3rd in Class AA boys, state qualifier; Blue Mountain’s Francesco Carr, 4th in Class AA boys, state qualifier; Blue Mountain’s Jude Scheidel, 7th in Class AA boys, state qualifier; Tony Marchetti, 9th in Class AA boys, state qualifier; Tamaqua girls, 2nd in Class AA, state qualifier

Advancement: Top two teams and top 10 individuals not on those teams qualify for the PIAA Championships on Nov. 2 at the Parkview Cross Country Course in Hershey.

Notes: District 11 changes the order of races every year. This time, Class AA leads off, followed by Class 3A and then Class A. Last season, Class 3A went first. … A new race starts every 40 minutes. … Coming off their victories at the Schuylkill League Cross Country Championships, Schuylkill Haven senior Anna Schaeffer and Minersville senior Kolin Long will look to challenge for victories and punch tickets to states. … Long is the defending Class A boys’ champion. … There’s an opening in Class A girls for local teams as two-time district and two-time state champion Virginia Kraus has transferred from Moravian Academy to Saucon Valley. In addition, team power Notre Dame-Green Pond has moved up to Class AA for the next two-year cycle.
