Pottsville girls’ soccer, volleyball teams grab key Division I wins

Girls’ Soccer

Pottsville 3, North Schuylkill 0 — Kailey Olenick scored twice as the Crimson Tide (11-4-1, 9-1 D-I) blanked the Spartans (7-3 D-I) in a Schuylkill League Division I match at Alumni Field.

Olenick scored 10:30 into the game, then added a second goal with 27 seconds left in the half off an assist by Abbie Davis. Lauren Kelly scored off an assist by Alexa Giuffre for Pottsville’s other goal, while Aubrey Scanlan stopped both of North Schuylkill’s shots to record the shutout.

Schuylkill Haven 10, Lourdes 0 — Kylie Siket scored five goals to lead Schuylkill Haven past Lourdes (2-6 D-II) in a Division II match at Shamokin.

Cadence Artz added two goals and one assist for the Hurricanes (9-0 D-II), while Taylor Haag had one goal and three assists and Ava Terefencko tallied one goal and one assist. Allie Scherer had one goal, and Peyton Butz contributed three assists.

Nikki Domermuth notched the shutout in goal. She did not have to make a save.

Blue Mountain 8, Marian 1 — Each of the Eagles’ three goalkeepers, Katie Katerman, Makayla Keck and Alanza Smith, scored a goal as Blue Mountain (8-3 D-I) routed Marian (0-9 D-I) in a Schuylkill League Division I matchup at the Eagles’ Nest.

Alex Warke scored twice for Blue Mountain, while Ellie Colindres, Cameryn Campbell and Ada Kenitzer also found the back of the net. Lizzie Pikitus scored Marian’s lone goal.

Tamaqua 8, Shenandoah Valley 0 — Kim Rudy and Sienna Stellfox each scored a pair of first-half goals as the Blue Raiders (3-6 D-I) routed the Blue Devils (1-7 D-I) in a Division I match at Tamaqua.

Evelyn Leinbach, Samantha Plasha, Makenna Ellington and Avery Deitrich added goals for Tamaqua, while Veronica Scott made four saves to notch her third shutout of the season. Rudy and Kolbe Robb each had two assists.

Minersville 12, Weatherly 0 — At Weatherly, Shayla Miklesavage, Rilynn Brennan and Olivia Kopinetz each scored two goals and had an assist as the Miners rolled past the Wreckers in a Division II match.

Kloee Horoschak, Jenna Cullen, Alivia Handling, Bella Plesnarski, Payton Frantz and Lea Oshman also found the back of the net for Minersville (5-3-1 D-II). Jasmine Bresnack made 24 saves for Weatherly (0-9 D-II).

In another Schuylkill League girls’ soccer match Thursday, Tri-Valley blanked Williams Valley 2-0.

Boys’ Soccer

Schuylkill Haven 3, Tamaqua 0 — Luke Smith and Carter Daniel notched one goal and one assist apiece to lead Schuylkill Haven to a non-league victory over visiting Tamaqua at Rotary Field.

Grayson Fessler scored the other goal for the Hurricanes (10-5).

Gavin Wade made seven saves to post the shutout in goal for Schuylkill Haven. Nicholas Barron made 15 saves for Tamaqua (3-11).

Girls’ Volleyball

Pottsville 3, Pine Grove 1 — Anna Burke and Ava Schwartz each had nine kills as the Crimson Tide topped the Cardinals 17-25, 25-11, 25-18, 25-19 to lock up the Schuylkill League Division I championship and a bye into the league semifinals.

Burke added four blocks and four aces for Pottsville (12-0 D-I), while Schwartz had five digs and two aces. Lainey Dusel contributed eight kills, eight digs and two blocks.

Domani Collazo led Pine Grove (6-6 D-I) with 17 kills, six blocks, three aces and 11 digs, while Mary Fertig had 28 assists, 16 digs and five aces and Lily Flynn recorded six kills, 10 digs and three aces.

Pottsville won JV 2-1.

Mahanoy Area 3, Blue Mountain 1 — Caylin Blashock notched 14 kills and five blocks as the Golden Bears downed the Eagles 25-18, 25-14, 20-25, 25-18 in a Schuylkill League Division I clash in Mahanoy City.

Lexi Chilinskas ran the Mahanoy Area offense, dishing out 28 assists, while Yehilna Reyes had 16 digs. Jaedyn Bartholomew led Blue Mountain with 12 kills, 13 digs and two blocks, while Tess Krasny had 23 digs and two assists and Isabella Grasso tallied 24 assists and 13 digs.

Blue Mountain won JV 2-1.

The victory moved Mahanoy Area into a tie with Blue Mountain for the third playoff berth from Division I at 7-5, with Pine Grove right behind at 6-6. Each team has two matches left, headlined by Pine Grove at Blue Mountain on Tuesday.

Panther Valley 3, Lourdes 0 — Emilie Hannis and her coaching staff notched their 100th victory at Panther Valley as the Panthers swept the Red Raiders 25-6, 25-11, 25-10 in a Division I match in Lansford.

With the victory, Panther Valley (10-2 D-I) clinches the second seed from Division I for the league playoffs.

Natalie Vermillion paced the Panthers with four kills, six aces and four assists, while Emma Dacey had seven kills, four digs and two assists and Abby Benack collected eight assists. Panther Valley won JV 2-0.

North Schuylkill 3, Tamaqua 0 — Lindsay Brouse served eight aces and Kyla Carado collected seven aces and five kills as the Spartans stormed past the Blue Raiders 25-14, 25-13, 25-13 in a Division I match.

Emily Walsh added five kills for North Schuylkill (2-10 D-I). Madison Schock had five assists and five digs for Tamaqua (0-12 D-I), while Isidura Neifert had four kills and four digs and Kelsey Lusch collected two kills and three digs.

North Schuylkill won JV 2-0.

Marian 3, Schuylkill Haven 0 — In Hometown, Kali Grochowski compiled 10 kills, seven digs and three aces as the Fillies swept the Hurricanes 25-20, 25-15, 25-13 to stay atop the Division II standings and clinch a league playoff berth.

Caydense Smith added six aces, eight digs and two assists for Marian (11-1 D-II). Isabella Horvat added nine kills, 14 digs and two aces, while Alena Lombardo had nine kills.

Jolynn Ross paced Haven (8-4 D-II) with 14 assists and eight digs, while Karlee Feger had two aces, three kills and 10 digs and Teagan Wehr had 28 digs and two aces. Schuylkill Haven won JV 2-0.

Nativity 3, Minersville 1 — Atop Lawton’s Hill, Addisan Ricard dished out 43 assists and had 11 digs, three kills and four aces as the Green Wave outlasted the Miners 23-25, 25-16, 25-21, 25-14.

Sara Spolski had a double-double with 13 kills, 10 digs and three aces for Nativity (8-4 D-II), while Julianna Carlson had 15 kills, seven digs and four aces and Janelle Ziegmont collected nine kills and four digs.

Hailey Croley paced Minersville (6-6 D-II) with four aces, three kills, three blocks and two assists. Lydia Harris added 14 digs and four aces, while Ayla Castle had 15 assists, three aces and six digs.

Nativity won JV 2-0.

Tri-Valley 3, Williams Valley 0 — In Hegins, Liv Lupole had eight kills and four aces as the Dawgs downed the Vikings 25-8, 25-10, 25-4 in a Division II match.

Callie Melocheck added 19 assists and three aces for Tri-Valley (10-2 D-II), while Kylie Clemmer tallied three kills and three aces. Emily Miller had 13 digs to lead Williams Valley (2-9 D-II), while Gabrielle Duprez had nine digs and Naomi Carl had two kills, two assists and three digs.

Tri-Valley won JV 2-0.

Shenandoah Valley 3, Weatherly 1 — Morgan Labosky notched 13 kills and had three service points as the Blue Devils earned their first Division II victory over the season with a 26-24, 23-25, 25-19, 25-20 win over the Wreckers in Shenandoah.

Danna Chagolla recorded 12 service points, three kills and six aces for Shenandoah Valley (1-10 D-II), while Kaye Lynn Sheehan had four kills, two assists, five digs and five aces.

Rachel Rosenlund tallied 12 service points, four aces, two kills and 23 assists for Weatherly (1-10 D-II), while Kaiya Kunkle had eight service points, seven kills and six digs and Abby Binder collected three service points, six kills, two aces and three digs.
