Pine Grove, Shenandoah Valley boys clinch Schuylkill League division soccer titles

Boys’ Soccer
Pine Grove 4, North Schuylkill 0 — Chase Sarge scored twice and Nate Frankenfield tallied three assists as Pine Grove captured the Schuylkill League Division I boys’ soccer title with a shutout of the Spartans at Ghosh Orthodontics Field at Spartan Stadium.
Tanner Kolb’s goal in the eighth minute helped Pine Grove (10-0-1 D-I) take a 1-0 halftime lead. Sarge made it 2-0 off an assist by Blake Ludwig at the 46-minute mark before goals by Quinn Brommer and Sarge five minutes apart allowed the Cardinals to pull away.
Pine Grove keeper Payton Renninger faced just one shot on goal. Kaden Onuschak had 11 saves for the Spartans.
Pine Grove earns a first-round bye in the six-team Schuylkill League playoffs and will face the Division II No. 2/Division I No. 3 winner in the league semifinals Monday, Oct. 14, at Blue Mountain.
Blue Mountain (9-1-1 D-I) has locked up the No. 2 seed in Division I, while North Schuylkill (6-4 D-I) can gain the third Division I playoff berth with one victory in its final two league games. The Schuylkill League quarterfinals are slated for Saturday, Oct. 12, at Blue Mountain.
Shenandoah Valley 10, Weatherly 0 — Ayden Zamudio had four goals and one assist to lead Shenandoah Valley past visiting Weatherly. Shenandoah Valley (10-0) locked up the Division II title with the victory. The Blue Devils earn a bye into the Schuylkill League semifinals.
Joan Menjivar added two goals and two assists, while Sam Mentusky and Elvis Lara contributed one goal and one assist apiece for Shenandoah Valley. Dante Garcia and Gordon Slater tallied one goal apiece.
Slater made six saves to record the shutout in goal.
Schuylkill Haven 7, Nativity 1 — Luke Smith scored four goals and had two assists as the Hurricanes rolled past the Green Wave in a Division II match atop Lawton’s Hill.
The victory moved Schuylkill Haven into a tie for second place in Division II with Minersville at 7-3. Tri-Valley is one game behind that duo at 6-4 as all three teams have two league games remaining.
Schuylkill Haven faces Weatherly and Williams Valley; Minersville takes on Tri-Valley and Shenandoah Valley; and Tri-Valley plays Minersville and Nativity.
Wednesday, Smith scored three times in the first half as Haven built a 3-1 halftime lead. Carter Daniel, Grayson Fessler, Alex Koch and Smith then scored in the second half as the Hurricanes pulled away. Fessler had three assists for Haven, while Cameron Snyder, Carson Auker and Justin Watson had one assist and goalkeeper Gavin Wade stopped 12 of 13 shots.
Matteo Ariaudo scored the lone goal for Nativity (1-9 D-II). Goalie Emmalee Pinkey made 12 saves.
Blue Mountain 11, Pottsville 1 — Shawn Batory tallied one goal and six assists as Blue Mountain cruised past Pottsville in a Division I match at the Eagles’ Nest.
Dylan Knittle notched three goals, Drew Waschko added two goals, and Evan Burcik dished out three assists for the Eagles. Hayden Freed contributed one goal and one assist.
For Pottsville (1-8-1 D-I), Aidan Bierman scored off an assist by Will Davis.
Blue Mountain won the JV match 4-0.
Tri-Valley 6, Williams Valley 1 — Lukas Ruch scored three times and Nathan Hillard had two goals and an assist as the Dawgs sank the Vikings in a Division II match in Williamstown.
Gavin Ballay also scored for Tri-Valley (6-4 D-II), while Hillard, Ballay, Dalton Leitzel, Sullivan Ganunis and Brayden Leese had assists. Brayden Leese had six saves for the Dawgs.
John Rautzahn scored the lone goal for Williams Valley (4-7 D-II) on a penalty kick. Owen Mace and Dawson Brennan combined to make five saves for the Vikes.
In other Schuylkill League boys’ soccer action Wednesday, Lourdes beat Marian 4-1.
Girls’ Volleyball
Pine Grove 3, Tamaqua 0 — Domani Collazo compiled 12 kills, four blocks and five aces as the Cardinals swept the Blue Raiders in a Schuylkill League Division I match in Tamaqua.
Grayclin Griffiths added seven kills and four aces for Pine Grove, while Mary Fertig had 29 assists and four aces. Pine Grove won JV 2-0.
Leah Black had five kills to lead Tamaqua, while Millie Black had four kills and two blocks and Madison Schock collected four aces and 10 assists.
Millersburg 3, Lourdes 1 — Anna Keer recorded 15 kills, four blocks and two digs but the Red Raiders dropped a 25-18, 25-14, 11-25, 25-22 non-league decision to the Indians.
Anna Krebs compiled 22 assists, four kills and two digs for Lourdes. Corinne Feese had 17 digs. Millersburg won JV 2-0.
